Luciano Pavarotti - The Complete Opera Recordings

A must have in your collection !!!!

This is a superb collection of Pavarotti's complete opera recordings with the added attraction of other concert hall works. His many recital recordings are not included but these are available elsewhere. The accompanying hardback book is attractive and well produced with photographs, information on his career and pictures of the original album artwork together with disc contents.The Blu Ray discs of six of the opera recordings are a welcome bonus, even if though they duplicate the CD versions which are included in the box set. One would pay a hefty sum indeed to purchase these recordings individually and although I already own several which I purchased over many years, it is good to have them all in one place.If one is a Pavarotti fan or indeed a fan of recorded opera, one can't go far wrong in purchasing this set. Many of the recordings have stood the test of time and indeed several of them belong in the most recommendable category for complete studio operas. Listening through the recordings, Pavarotti's artistry and voice remained on the whole remarkably consistent and his casts include many of the finest singers of the period with mostly world-class orchestras conducted by many of the leading conductors of the latter part of the last century.The only negatives I have are recurring ones in relation to many box sets. There are no libretti with translations. The individual sleeves containing the discs are quite tightly packed making them difficult to remove from each of the four smaller internal boxes and a few of the spines are incorrectly labelled.

sono tutti i dischi cioe cd di Luciano Pavarotti avevo acquistato con Amazon gia una 20 ma questi sono 95 e li amo confezione molto grande e c e un piccolo libro e il voto di amore che ho fatto a Big maestro Luciano e sono meravigliosi tutti i suoi cd il prezzo li vale tutti ed io ho aspettato che ritornassero perche erano spariti da Decca grazie ad Amazon chi ama la lirica e Pavarotti deve averli

I rate this set a 5 even though there are some problems. The product description is wrong -- the set does not include ALL the opera roles that Pavarotti recorded -- it is lacking Tebaldo in Bellini's I Capuleti e I Montecchi -- fortunately, there are 2 recordings available on YouTube and for purchase on Amazon. Also, there are some misprints here and there on the sleeves of the discs. Of 101 discs only one had glitches -- and it plays just fine on a different machine.This is fabulous for a real Pavarotti fan.Go to Decca for a full listing of everything included on the discs.

Decca bringt zum zehnjährigen Todestag eine Luxus Box auf den Markt, welche doch noch einmal sehr deutlich macht, wieviel Pavarotti die Opernwelt gegeben hat und wie schmerzlich auch heute noch ein Sänger wie Pavarotti der Opernwelt fehlt.Viele der Opern-Aufnahmen mit Pavarotti dürften den meisten Lesern bekannt sein. Viele haben Referenzstatus (etwa La Boheme, Turandot, Madama Butterfly, L'Elisir d'Amore, La fille du regiment, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto, La traviata, I Puritani ... - um nur einige zu nennen). Die Aufnahmen liegen meist remastered vor, das remastering stammt wohl bei den meisten Aufnahmen aus der letzten Sammlung (The first decade) von 2013 und ist nicht zu beanstanden.Die Aufnahmen und das remastering haben durchweg höchste Qualität. Manche Opern liegen mehrfach vor. Dabei sind die älteren Aufnahmen stimmlich meist auf höherem Niveau, wobei die älteren Aufnahmen jedoch ebenfalls ihren Reiz haben und auch mit einem älteren Pavarotti extrem gut besetzt sind.Positiv ist hervorzuheben, dass Decca hier (fast) alle Aufnahmen in dieser Box vereinigt. So sind auch die bei EMI erschienen L'Amico Fritz und Don Carlos ebenso enthalten wie der bei Philips erschienene Paggliaco. Als Goodie ist zudem Pavarottis erste La Boheme von 1961 enthalten. Zudem sind 6 Aufnahmen in Blu Ray Audio Qualität enthalten.Auch wenn diese Zusammenstellung Vollständigkeit suggeriert, so trifft dies jedoch leider nicht ganz zu: Fehlt doch etwa das Requiem unter Muti (EMI). Zudem wäre es für Sammler (und dies dürften im Wesentlichen die Zielgruppe darstellen) schön gewesen, wenn hier etwa auch die Aufnahme des Requiems unter Karajan (erschienene bei der DG als DVD) enthalten wären. Stattdessen sind 6 Blu Rays in hochauflösender Qualität enthalten, wobei mittlerweile alle Aufnahmen der "First Decade" als Blu Ray Audios erschienen sind. Also wäre es eigentlich nachvollziehbarer gewesen, in einer "Complete Edition" entweder alle Aufnahmen oder keine aufzunehmen, warum also nur 6? - So bleibt angesichts der Lücke ein etwas unbefriedigendes Gefühl beim Sammler.Diese Eindruck der Inkonsistenzen setzt sich dann auch bei kleinen Ungenauigkeiten im Begleitmaterial fort (so fehlt etwa beim Solti-Requiem die Angabe von Dirigent und Orchester im Begleitheft, die Tracks im ersten Ballo in maschera sind anders auf die CD's verteilt als im Begleitbuch angegeben...). Dies ist natürlich nicht wirklich schlimm, hoffentlich sind solche Ungenauigkeiten aber nicht auch im Remastering enthalten (ich habe bislang nur bei ein paar Aufnahmen hereingehört, kann es also noch nicht beurteilen).Ich würde die musikalische Qualität der Aufnahmen mit 6 Punkten bewerten (wenn es diese dann gäbe), der Umfang der Zusammenstellung bekäme ebenfalls 6 Punkte, das Design bekommt 5 Punkte (schöne Verpackung, Original Cover, nettes Buch), die Sorgfältigkeit der Ausgabe allerdings nur 3, das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis (101 CD/Blu-Rays für nur € 190) 7 Punkte...Zusammengenommen klare 5 Sterne (mit ein paar unbedeutenden Kritteleien eines langjährigen Sammlers). Für alle, die Pavarotti noch nicht vollständig haben oder aber auch als Einstiegspaket in die Welt der italienischen oper.Ein tolles Unterfangen der Decca, danke!
