This book has so much information about painting and drawing dogs! Also, the directions are clear and the illustrations are beautiful!

Art Studio with 50+ Dog Ideas provided just that! Lots of fun inspiration and some fresh techniques for me to try. I love painting my dogs and having new methods and mediums makes my day! Well worth buying! It may not be for total beginners to immediately start using, but you'll be glad you have it to refer to as your skills grow. Enjoy! By the way, Ska∂i is a Great Pyrenees/Leonberger cross and weighs about 150-ish. She and her sister are the perfect muses!

This book gives a simplified, yet detailed explanation for a variety of tools from drawing to painting with acrylic or oils (and even a few brief touches on water color tools as well) and even touching on pastels and colored pencil mediums. Overall this book can provide a good generalized knowledge of tools but I definitely would recommend further looking for something more detailed for whatever your specified medium is. It also gives simplified, yet detailed explanations for techniques for various mediums as well, it also touches on color theory, transferring a drawing (and some different methods to do so), and several other aspects of art.When it comes to learning how to draw the different dogs, several dogs have very descriptive step by step instructions whereas others have one or two little blocks of instructions and you more so almost rely on the photos to show you how to draw them. It does have some dogs which have no instructions at all! It's not all none instructional though, for instance the graphite pencil section is pretty instruction heavy vs your basic sketch section. In terms of the paint section it's medium to light on instructions but does give you colors for various examples used, and teaches you realism to even pop art.All in all for what this book is, it's a great starter book that can give you a good starting basis of knowledge but it won't be your end all be all book by any means. I definitely recommend it whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced artist even just to have on hand to flip through every now and again but I'd go in knowing it won't fill in all the blanks for you and you will have to end up looking for other sources to give you more information.I only rated it 4/5 stars because it doesn't have a solid basis for instructions throughout and ranges anywhere from non instructional/light instruction to heavy depending on the project section and if I could I'd honestly rate it 4.5, it's just that considering it's stated on the book for beginning artists specifically I feel it should have a more solid instructional basis all throughout versus vary significantly.

This book is extremely well done and easily explains how to do each project in whichever medium. I hope there are more just like it!!!! Highly recommended!!!!

Very basic art instruction and illustrations.My reservation is what book on painting and drawing dogs can not include any reference to the German Shepherd?

The book is good, lots of great info and inspiration. My issue is with how it was packaged. It was just put in an envelope, so when I got it, it was all bent up already. For a new product and the price, it should at least be packed with a little cardboard.

Over 50% of book on drawings!!Painting instructions very limited!! Their book on horses is brilliant!! Very limited examples on various breeds!!
