Graded Chinese Reader 3 (1000 Words) - Selected Abridged Chinese Contemporary Short Stories

While I haven't finished reading the book, I have been reading it a fair amount since I purchased it last week.It is composed of abridged modern short stories by some of China's more famous authors. The stories are about relatively modern Chinese life, and are fascinating to read.Composed of around 1000 unique words, I found that it was perfect for my level such that I can read it without having to stop and look things up in my dictionary the whole time. I have studied more than 1000 words, but I needed the extra reading practice, and this has provided a relaxing and entertaining way of doing it. The key to these books is buying one that is at the correct level, so be sure as you can before you buy!

Great format, the pinyin helps with understanding, and you can use the pinyin hiding sheet to practice reading without the pinyin. I love the fact that the 1000 words needed for understanding the book are listed at the end. The level is not too difficult, I would say intermediate, the sentences are simple and the stories flow quite seamlessly despite this being abridged versions of the real ones. Geat book to recommend to those wanting to practice reading and/or listening to Chinese (Audio book included on a CD)

Hellish difficult to follow, the man speaks very fast. I had to keep stopping and looking at the characters; only then could I understand what was going on. It might be O.K. if you were brought up in a Chinese family, for instance from Hong Kong where they speak Cantonese; or if you were pretty advanced in your knowledge of the language.

Would recommend.
