Banyantree Foods Tellicherry Black Pepper 200g

I do a lot of cooking with peppercorns, mostly preparing with mortar and pestle, so I thought I would give these a go as they were supposed to be better than normal. I get my peppercorns from trade suppliers (e.g Noels) so am used to top quality. As soon as I began to grind these I knew there was a problem - no release of aroma from the oil and they were very dry so just crumbled. Cooking with them proved my first impression, very little taste . So back to buying 'normal' peppercorns as they are far better, no idea what to do with these expensive spices.

I am not in the business of writing wholly subjective and overly emotive reviews but it should be said both my wife and I have been most disappointed with the almost complete lack of taste/flavour of these peppercorns. Indeed, they are almost identical to the ancient peppercorns we have left at the back of a cupboard for goodness knows how long bought from one of the larger supermarkets.The reason I bought these peppercorns was because I wanted to try and re-capture the incredible flavour of fresh ground pepper we found in Sri Lanka a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, these peppercorns have not lived up to their billing.

These peppercorns are very disappointing, not appreciably different in flavour from generic supermarket peppercorns and they are tiny! The description says these are handpicked large peppercorns which is odd as they are very small!!Packaging is a vacuum packed plastic bag, which is fine. Labelling was a dirty torn barcode label, not like that shown in the product picture above, which was disappointing.

If you buy cheap you miss out on what freshly ground black should be! This is firery, hot, aromatic and leave a warm pleasant sensation in the mouth. Just eat one pepper and grind it with your teeth to see for yourself. It's a while since I bought Tellicherry black pepper - too long really! Highly recommended.

Excellent black peppercorns. Sealed and wrapped well, arrived on time, beautiful flavour - much fresher than those over-priced tiny supermarket jars!

Without a doubt the best flavour of any Black Pepper that I have tried. Goes through the Mill perfectly. Highly Recommended.
