best for the money. period
First of all on Amazon you gotta do your due diligence...Always......If you read the specs and reviews there are many of these almost all exactly alike save for a few pamphlets and a cloth storage bag to keep it in!?!? OK the square one is shaped differently. and yes there is always gonna be the idiot who will differ and say there are different ones in thickness etc. as I said read and compare those like this one range in price from about $13 to $35 and are named from plain to Fancy but in each description when you get to the fine print you find are made in China same exact dimensions thickness, grade of stainless (and its not 440 although it did not rust upon first washing but does stick to a magnet!) draw your own conclusions from there. SO... my review will continue from there....1st on first attempt using good quality pellets they did light readily and provide great smoke when elevated, as in on a grate or wire structure to allow airflow to all sides.2 Sme generated by a full canister of pellets fairly firmly packed by but end of screwdriver tapped with a hammer down into the them to "Seat" them" lit then laid on said grill was approx. 3.5 hrs.' A+3 Thickness of metal in tube, and ends showed no warping or disfigurement, although the sides did change color and showed signs of changing heat treating status Blue and gold? this was NOT char or grease it is evidence of high ferric content (steal) and will eventually begin to oxidize. (rust) therefor ...if you with this to have the longest useful lifespan do not wash with soap/water just let it cool then empty and gently brush with a mild brush preferably a brass or bronzeAfter about 10 uses its actually holding up better than I expected. all in all a small price compared to cost of pellets and meat in cooker, and delivers what it is meant to. 4 stars as it should actually be as advertised "better quality/more chromium in the stainless steel". But Chinese metallurgy we all know is crap at any price.

Durable heavy gauge stainless steel works great!
Because of the price I was concerned that it would be made of a cheap, thin metal, but to my surprise it is made of heavy duty stainless steel with a permanently attached end cap. I have a Kamado style ceramic “Egg” charcoal grill, but it’s not easy to add wood chunks for smoke flavor after all the grates are in place. Now I don’t have to worry about that because I can easily add “smoke” using this smoker tube. I cook steaks using the Sous Vide method, and then put the final sear on them in a cast iron pan, for convenience, but I was unable to get a smoke flavor on them, until now. After cooking steaks Sous Vide I fire up the smoker tube and put it and the steaks in the Kamado grill, and cold smoke them for 2 hours. This can be done well in advance of when you plan to serve them, and then put on the final sear just before serving. I have also used the smoker tube to cold smoke the steaks before cooking Sous Vide, and it works great as well. For this method just coat the meat with a little cooking oil first as the smoke flavor seems to cling to the oil nicely, then season and Sous Vide in your normal manner.

Awesome smoke
I have been experimenting smoking with my gas grill. I was given a cast iron smoke box several years ago but never was able to obtain a good smoke flavor in any of the meats I smoked. After a lot of internet searching the common thread was the smoke tube. So I got this smoke tube and some pure wood pellets (Lumberjack) and gave it a try. WHAT difference!!!! The smoke lasted for hours (this tube is good for 5 to 51/2 hours easily. The taste now is right where I want it, rich and flavorful would a good smoke note throughout. For me, smoke of my smoking is done in 2 1/2 to 3 hours so I am going to get a 6" tube to go with my 12". For folks who want to smoke on a gas grill, this is the way to go.

Works with pellets
This is great for using to add smoke while using a gas grill; especially when using the rotisserie. Follow the instructions for lighting and it will smoke as long as they claim. You can fill it part way for short smokes, or all the way for long smokes. I light mine with my blowtorch. (Why blowtorch? After moving to PEX plumbing, the thing was just sitting around so...it was convenient. But I digress.) Anyway, I had a ton of pellets given to me from someone and I had no other use for them...this works much better than the wood chip smoker boxes I have been using for years. I can't speak to their use as a smoker solution because I have a dedicated smoker, but I suppose they could work well for cold smoking, although I would assume they would impart more heat than dedicated cold smoking solutions. But hey...we have winter to fix that problem...

For the BBQer
I like this and it smokes well when it gets going. Smokes well. I have a smaller grill and I wish I could get one half the size. It is so long and it takes some work to get the pellets to light . I only fill pellets half way and trying to stick fire down the tube and hold it long enough to get pellets to light is a challenge for me. I have to say if I can get it to light it is worth it.I just let it finish burning ( be sure and let it cool ) and then I shake out the ashes. It is well made with good quality of metal for long life. Just make one half the size.

Smoked beautifully
I've had an electric smoker for years and never got much smoke from the wood chips. I used this once so far and the smoke is unreal. A full tube smoked for 5 hours, so I will use half a tube next time. Worked beautifully, my meatloaf was very well smoked.

Great for cold smoking meats.
I bought this with intentions of using it in my Masterbuilt 40" smoker to cold smoke some pork bellies. My smoker uses a heating element to burn the wood and make smoke. I used this tube with some Cherry wood pellets and it produced 6 hours of continuous smoke. It worked awesome. I also used it in my BBQ pit wile cooking some rib-eyes for Valentines day supper. It put out a perfect amount of smoke and worked better than I could have imagined. I am going to try to wear this thing out.
