I absolutely love this book. Charley Harper was such and interesting artist, and it is fun to sketch and copy his birds.

As a fan of Charley Harpers art for many years, I love the illustrations and easy to follow instructions. A fun and useful book for sketchers and bird lovers both.

I teach art to kindergarten through 6th grade students. This is a terrific guide to drawing the charming bird art of Charley Harper. His minimal realistic style is truely original, inspirational and approachable. I used the example of the cardinal with my first grade students. They loved it and did a great job. It helped them learn about using three of the seven elements of art: line, shape and color.

I bought this book to use in my art classroom with 3rd graders. The students loved his art and were able to create their own "abstract minimalist" works in his style with the help of the images and directions in this book. A great addition to my classroom

I thought it would go into how he decided which aspects of each bird to emphasize but it's just an exercise in how to draw them. Not a bad book but could have been so much more.
