A Great Reference Guide!
Fashions in the Era of Jane Austen by Jody Gayle is a 2012 Publications of the Past Release. If you are a fan of: Jane Austen, fashion, regency period, or history you will most likely enjoy this book. If you are a historian or an author doing research or student doing a paper for school, you might find this book a wonderful resource tool.Beginning January 1809-the author illustrated a Walking Dress and Evening Full and takes us up through each month of the year and even includes children's clothing. This book isn't just about ladies fashions, the gentleman's fashions are described as well.We are walked through each month of each year going all the way up to the year 1820. There are detailed descriptions of the fabrics, the social occasions the fashions were worn, and a sketch or drawing, most in color, to demonstrate the way the outfit or hat was worn. This book make a wonderful reference guide and was absolutely fascinating. While I loved seeing these dresses and all the attention to detail that went into them, I am glad we don't have to put all those clothes on now. It's no wonder ladies needed help getting dressed back in this era of time, especially if it were a formal outing. Whew! At any rate, this book was fun to look at and made for some lively discussions and lots of oohs and aahs. 4 stars

Interest Tour of Dresses
I enjoyed seeing how the fashion of the 1700 to 1800's changed during the era of Jane Austin. It makes reading her books more interesting when I can imagine how they must have dressed.

Kindle Fire HD version successful on mine.
I was a bit hesitant to purchase this when I saw the one review for Kindle that said the fashion plates were not very visible. Maybe this is a more recent edition because I found all of the plates to be in very good condition. I loved that I could long press them and use the zoom feature. I could not tell from the other multi-starred reviews whether they had purchased the Kindle version or print version, so I took the chance on this since it was free today. I'm glad I did. I'm a writer and I like to have many of these kinds of books on hand for reference. I don't know that I will ever write anything for this period, but for me, this is good inspiration if I ever decide to. A lot of pictures and good information to go along. Not at all disappointed.

Not what I expected
I expected more of a catalog with color. Especially with color as the names of colors are not the same then and now. Also, I now wish I had purchased a hands-on book instead of an e-book. Why? Because I shall use this book as a reference book. An e-book does not easily allow the ability to peruse the material. I try to have all my reference books hands-on books. The book is well worth the price and full of wonderful clothing for from that era for casual entertainment. If you know your reason for wanting the book and buy accordingly ( e-book vs. hands-on ) you will be well pleased.

Fashions in the era of Jane Austen
Lovely book for those that love "frocks", Jane Austen and/or are in design.Just loved it all really BUT took the one star off because I would have appreciated the hat, gloves, shoes and coats of each ensemble drawn too so that I could really see the design and materials, and, gain a stronger perspective of the era and design elements placement.Twenties next please....

Excellent resource
This is a straightforward and invaluable compilation of original source material for regency fashions. Excellent for writers of the period, costumers, or anyone interested in fashion or the period. The only reason it isn't five stars is that the page breaks went a big wonky on the iPad. A minor annoyance, though, for such a useful book.

I love looking at the pictures.
I'm able to find the clothing items easily & there's great pics. Love it except that on the page will be the pic of the Opera Dress & the next facing page caption says 'Ball Dress'. It wasn't input with the captions on the same page with their corresponding picture, so, I do a lot of flipping back & forth. Then, later, they do match & I'm still flipping.

wonderful resource on Ackermann's fashion plates
This is a perfect bound book that is an excellent reference for anyone interested in English fashion from 1809 to 1820. The book reproduces in colour all the fashion plates from Ackermann's repository of arts from those years and also provides the descriptions that were published with the fashion plates. The book is a wonderful reference for anyone interested in fashion during this period or for collectors of Ackermann's fashion plates. Books on these fashion plates are scarce and this will be an invaluable reference for collectors who may not otherwise ever get to see many of these fashion plates. The book is perfect bound and print on demand. It is not a glossy art book and there is some variation in the quality of the images but they are all easy to see in good size along with their descriptions underneath. Now we just have to hope that there is a book which covers the period 1821-1829 and there'll be a full reference for people interested in these fashion plates.

regency dress
This book gives illustration and details of types of materials used from original Ackerman repository. I am sure that this book would suit everyone interested in regency period fashion and prove an excellent source of reference. I have just purchased a second copy for a friends birthday present as I know she has same interest. Exceptionally good.

Jane Austen fashion reference
For Jane Austen fans and for re-enactors this is invaluable. You can leaf through the fashion plates and check what would be suitable clothing and accessories during the Regency period, and also gain inspiration if you are sewing a costume for yourself whether it is a dress, pelisse or bonnet, umbrella or shoes. The plates really give you a 'feel' for the period and the descriptions will help considerably with choice of fabrics, colours and trims.
