Translations are Unremarkable
I was disappointed in these versions, which capture the sense but not the magic of this work. Rilke"s voice feels muted here.

A Book for Someone Who Loves to Read!
I gave this book as a Christmas gift. It was was probably the most appreciated gift I have ever given to someone. He is a new published author, who enjoys reading this book immensely.

Rilke's work is timeless. His use of meter and form and the way he sometimes uses the barest stanzas to tell the entire tale is exquisite.

Good introduction
For the price, this is a good introduction. I had hoped for the full book of hours, but instead just got a tantalizing taste.

Too tighly tailored...
The translation of the poems is respectful of the rhythm and rhyme in which they were written in German, a fidelity in form that sometimes unfortunately shatters the power and beauty of the original lines...I find it equally disconcerting that the collected poems,e.g. Book Of Hours, are not broken into separate poems but presented as one long continuous poem. Maybe I'm just too accustomed to reading Rilke's poems in free-verse translations...On the other hand, the selections from Rilke's different books are satisfying.
