Liked it!
I've seen this series twice already and liked it a lot ... albeit not as much as other more exciting series such as Jewel in the Palace, the Royal Gambler or Empress Ki (to name a few) but this is fine, also. I must complain only about the quality of the DVDs ... a lot of the outdoor scenes were very blurry, especially during the fight scenes. I was wondering if these are really original DVDs or maybe they were copied off a telecast?

This brave and devoted soldier bravely enters the swirling vortex to find THE GREAT HEALER. Upon arriving in our time he encounters many dangerous things, like cars and security guards. It is very funny. He grabs her through the portal with her medical bag with suppli. He has promised that she can go home after she saves the Queen. Home being Heaven, of course, where else would she live. Ultimately, the King forbids her to return and the portal closes. She now has to adjust to this new place, but for how long? The faithful soldier falls in love with her. But as much as he loves her , he plans to let her return to heaven as promised. There is a lot of palace mysteries and revolts going on there. It is amazing how they could pack so many things into this drama. As others find out about THE GREAT DOCTOR FROM HEAVEN, they plan to take her for their own purposes. To have that power would be amazing, and to plan to either go with her to Heaven or go by themselves there. This is a very fast paced show and you just can't walk away. Plan for a marathon of this show, before you know it , it will be 1 in the morning. Some of the evil characters have magic powers. They are really cool. The main evil guy even falls in love with our doctor too. He has doctors tools and a mysterious book that were left a hundred years before. You will never guess where they came from, who brought them or what is the secrets that are locked in the book. It's hard to believe that this woman gets poisoned more than once. What a way to get her to be with you. I was really amazed at how good this is. I almost didn't buy it because Lee Min Ho was in it. I hated him in Boys Over Flowers, yes, I'm a Jihoo fan. If I turn the show off at the proper place on that series I can have my ending. You won't want to miss this one.I write reviews for dramas and music from Korea,Taiwan, China, and Japan. I have over 80 reviews of only Asian dramas, music and more. This is the only area I review. If you like my reviews you can click on my name at the top to see more. Great Time Travel Romance Filled with Drama and Palace Intrigue
I rarely buy movies without trying to see them first, but the storyline of a modern day doctor kidnapped and transported back into the past of ancient Korea intrigued me. Happily, I was not disappointed. I love time travel romance, but this has the added fun of a costume period piece, palace intrigue, romance and all the drama that comes with that. There is some inadvertent comic relief in the form of over-the-top acting by some of the major and minor characters, but these performances do not take away from or overshadow the excellent performances from the rest of the cast. I live in Los Angeles, California and the dvds played on my blu-ray player. I had no difficulty with the English subtitles which was important to me since I cannot understand Korean. A very small criticism: I would have liked subtitles to appear when the camera froze over scenes with writing (ex. letters, scrolls, etc.), so the viewer who cannot read Chinese or Korean characters can understand what the character is reading and reacting to. Luckily, the dialogue and the facial expressions help fill in the gaps. Sadly, there are no bonus features available, so you have to go on the internet to read the backstory of how this film was made and learn a little bit about the actors. Perhaps this is just as well as I oftentimes frustratingly find that the vignettes on foreign film bonus features rarely have subtitles. One final word of caution: in the beginning, you may find the main character--the modern-day female doctor--totally stupid and annoying since from the very first episode, she has a chance to escape back into the time portal but fails to do so. Of course, her failure to escape is the reason behind the whole context of the story and if she escaped in the beginning, there would be no reason for the story, romance, drama, etc. This is just one plot defect and some might find the doctor so annoying as to turn the TV off. Please don't. You're going to start to wonder what this general sees in this seemingly silly woman, but please persevere in watching this movie and try to understand that this woman has been kidnapped and taken to a strange place and time and no one is able to explain anything to her. She understandably misses her former life, her home and her parents. She even admits that while she might have been a brilliant medical student, she was a dud in Korean history which adds to her cluelessness. The woman doctor's character does evolve as do other characters in this movie. In fact, it is the change in the woman's character that makes the general's growing love for her more poignant. The last episode seemed in a hurry to wrap things up, so if you are confused by it, I suggest you look up the story on the internet which explains it quite nicely in a few sentences.
