It's hard to believe that this mat can actually be relaxing. Truthfully, it kind of feels like your back is on fire, but it some how relaxes the muscles at the same time. I fell asleep on this once, which is pretty remarkable considering that what you're laying on looks exactly like golf shoe cleats.

Pretty nice feel BUT materials seem a little on the cheap side. My son loves it after a soccer game.

It did hurt to use at first but I quickly adjusted to it. I have a muscle in my back/shoulder that often hurts and I have tried many things to massage it. This works better than anything else I have used. I place a tennis ball under the mat to help focus on the area that needs the pressure. This actually makes the spikes dig into my back a little too much (and is painful despite my acclimation to the product) but is necessary because, well, your back isn't actually flat and I couldn't get enough pressure where I need it otherwise.I recently pulled a muscle in my lower back. I used this on the pulled muscle and it helped enormously. It's not magic, but I couldn't stretch that part of my back without real pain.

This didn't help my back pain at all. It didn't hurt to lay on it but it wasn't comfortable either.
