This is a shovel you can use without hurting its feelings. It’s beefy, simple, versatile, and well-engineered.I confirmed the following by my own measurements:Weight (shovel + extension + main handle + bag): 26.8oz (760g)*Weight (shovel w/o extension, w/main handle + bag): 22.2ozWeight (shovel w/o extension, w/o main handle, +bag): 16.2ozFull length: shovel + main handle + extension: 24.75” longMid length: shovel + main handle (no extension): 18.75” longShortest: shovel alone: 12.5” (there is easily enough of a handle here to use alone – 5.625” of handle)Shovel head: 4.3125” W x 5.5625”Packed dimensions: 7” x 4.375”Shovel head gauge: Over 1/8” thick (solid)Serrations: Dull enough to rub fingers; sharp enough to cut things when trying.Blade edge: Narrowed, but not sharpened (could sharpen if needed)Screw-in parts: .6875” long, well-machined, strong, deep grovesPick: Not sharp; best-suited for fast narrow digging or getting through frozen surfaces. In shovel position, the pick can drop over your belt to hold while temporarily using your hands for something else.Grip on main handle: Textured rubber, good-looking, big enough for large hands.Positions: Head parallel to handle (shovel position); head perpendicular to handle (axe position, w/pick either extended or retracted). Each position is very well secured & supported for vigorous use. Positions are only secure when the screwable part just below the head is flush against the flat surface above it.Bag: Functional, belt-loop, hanging loop; not amazingly durable bag -- I already see small cuts in it from the screwable parts cutting through. They should add a stronger, thicker material at the top to address that issue.Assembly: It took me 40 seconds to casually pull from the bag and screw in both handles as well as screw the securing mechanism below the shovel head.*All items weighed on a quality kitchen scale.

Definitely a keeper for the car
I just received this a few days ago as an early Christmas present. With the ground being frozen, I haven't had the chance to use it just yet, but I did get to set it up. It feels pretty solid and is definitely something I would like to have in the trunk of my car to get me out of a pinch. The shovel/pick comes in three pieces (head/pick and two sections of handle). I could see myself only using one piece of handle and using it like a hand pick on occasion.I like how small the shovel compacts and the case that it comes in. This shovel doesn't have much of a lip on the edges and is pretty much flat, so you aren't going to be picking up much dirt with it, but you will be able to move dirt and rocks using the pick and shovel in a raking motion. There are some serrations on the side of the shovel for cutting and a bottle cap opener on the back corner. I probably won't be using this shove to saw through a tree, but it would be nice to be able to saw through some rope if you didn't have anything else available.Overall the shovel is not something that you would want to use every day, but having it around to get you out of a tough situation will be awesome.

Durable With High Quality Steel
This product as usual with Prime was delivered super fast. Upon opening the survival shovel I was pleasantly surprised. This shovel is made to last! It is very high quality steel, and also converts into a pick-axe. I have spent many years in the military, and have used mini-shovels/entrenching tools, and this one beats all of those. If your looking for a small compact shovel, this is the one to get.

Always be prepared!
I'm so stoked for this shovel. It is so compact and portable, it's great to throw in a glove compartment or in any camping bag for emergencies. I also love that it has the option for changing the head angle so that you can both shovel and dig at any angle needed. I would highly recommend this item for any camping or emergency enthusiasts, as well as anyone else who just likes to be prepared.

good little shovel, very compact and stout.
the ONLY thing that I dont like is the screw down lock collar wont stay tight.....i had to tape it to keep it from unscrewing. other than that, this little shovel is stout enough to be used HARD and you wont break it unless you misuse it.

Does the job
Very solid metal used yet light weight. like the length and material of handle. The weak link is the screw that tightens the shovel to the handle. Wold be perfect if it was metal instead of plastic.

Extremely well made!!!!
I ordered this to dig holes in the sand at the beach to bury sandbags attached to the ropes of our shade tent. I wanted one with a handle extension attachment so I wouldn’t have to dig while sitting. I labored over reading reviews and product descriptions for literally hours ( I detest having to return something). I could not be more pleased with this shovel! It is VERY WELL MADE! The extension handle gives it just the right amount of height so I don’t have to sit and shovel! Love the carrying case.

A real shovel I can take backpacking!
Wow! I was expecting something like what you'd find at a surplus store. This is much more solid and more compact and has more uses. While not why I originally wanted it, this is something I can take backpacking and will add to my abilities on the trail! The serrated edge will cut wood and the pick will be awesome for rockhounding. The handle and blade are solid and screw together so for backpacking i can take a length out and make it significantly lighter while maintaining strength! I'm excited now, can't wait till spring! It will be more than perfect on the multi day river trips I wanted it for.
