Esschert Design USA WA10 Wooden Squirrel House

Cute product and I was in need of squirrel houses for my squirrels that come around as I took down a tree, but the door that can be opened it very very snug and so that causes some issues. I could probably make one in the future if I had the time. Like the 3holes access as well.

I would have preferred the box to be longer and was surprised that it has 3 openings. Otherwise, it will be just fine. I don't have it hung up yet...just waiting for better weather.

I needed to waterproof this house with non-toxic water proofing, the wood was not protected at all, and I'm sure it would fall apart in no time. It would be really nice if the people selling it would do it fo us!

I was happy to see this was a nice box. I was not happy with the price but when I got it I felt much better. It was so easy to put up, just hammer a big nail into a tree. I made sure the entrance was not a North facing entrance and I put some bedding in there and some nuts to invite my squirrels to check it out. The roof is really nice and I hope one particular squirrel I love dearly makes it her home for the winter. I highly recommend squirrel nesting boxes for those who love their wildlife. They do not hibernate like chipmunks who generally live underground here in Vermont. How do I know? My flower gardens know. LOL.

My Squirrels are Happy! They found the house very comfortable and get used to it immediately.

Arrived In Amazon box 2 1/2 times too big!! No packing material inside of box!! As a result, I spent 15-20 minutes fixing!! On clean out door, one of the staples that hold clean out door together didn’t even hit the mark. I found my staple gun and fixed!! The hardware on clean out door is cheap and will fail!! Not a happy consumer today!!

Shipping speed was good, but for $50 I expected better quality. On the side of the house is an access "door," which is attached by two metal dowels. It is designed to swing upwards to a 90 degree angle. None of this was in the photo, or in the description of the product. The "door" has a latch on the outside to keep it secure.The problem with this door is that the dowels are not long enough to keep the door on its "hinge." It slips back and forth between the two drilled holes, and one dowel constantly falls out, making the entire thing unstable for squirrels. In order for this to be stable the latch on the outside must attach to its counter part, and the only way for it to reach is if you pull the whole door to the left, which pulls the right dowel out of its hole. This makes the door unstable.This would be a great product if it had come as advertised. I would send it back, but do not have the time now to do so. It is a gift, and I still need to paint it. I am very disappointed that I spent $50 on a product I now must fix on my own.

Basically this is an excellent house for the low price with a nice design including a metal roof. However, I found it was let down by flimsy construction. Where I would use thick wood this uses thin wood. Where I would use screws this uses staples. As a result I found it warping apart once exposed to the weather and some reinforcement was necessary. I have an online supplier who uses thick wood to make excellent boxes and I think I will get something from him as the price of more substantial materials is definitely better value.

I bought this for a squirrel i had to evict from a gutter. The house is of reasonable quality. Beware that the metal is very sharp and not flush with the roof, so you can cut yourself badly if you handle it in the wrong way. I dont know how long the wood will last but i didnt want to treat it in case the smell of the wood treatment affected the squirrel. The swinging door is connected by two thin pins. One of these was sticking out the wood because the swinging door came off. This is another sharp hazard. If you handle with care then it will be a good house.

Seems reasonably built. No rough edges on mine. Just gotta wait and see what my 2 regulars think of it next time their charging up the tree. Time will tell.

The product is poorly finished and the tin roof is extremely sharp. While putting it down it I cut my wrist wide open. In my opinion this product should not be available for sale or come with a warning.

Metal roof is sharp at the edges. Im going to get mine covered with felt as I know the squirrels will climb on it and metal can get hot in the sun. Nice House but finishings a bit rough. Door at side too loose and worried about there being a gap. Will need a diy guy to make it just right unfortunately to ensure its safe for wildlife.
