Great initiative not so great follow through
I just finished reading this entire book in one sitting. I was so excited when I saw it and I wanted to love it. While I am happy that a book has been created about this subject, this one was not as comprehensive as the title suggest. I was very disappointed. It only talked about 3 possible hairstyles buns, pipe cleaner curls, and curling with sponge rollers. To say talked about gives to much credit, it was really a mention. I would have liked more styles mentioned, details about how to execute the styles including recommended equipment and maybe some variations based on length of locks, and pictures so I could follow along or at least be inspired. It basically told me that I needed products to care for my locks but to go to a website to find out which product and it says that repeatedly. "You need shampoo, go to this site to see what shampoo you need" and "You will need conditioner too, go to this site to see what conditioner." It repeated does that when telling you that you also need moisturizer, protein treatment, and optional locking gel. I really wanted to love this book but it was only a 28 page marketing ad for a website that wants to sell me product. The book goes into step by step directions for how to shampoo, condition, and treat hair that is extremely basic and not at all really specific to locks, except to say squeeze along the length rather than smooth to help get rid of excess water. Much of the book is general information for washing hair that applies to everyone that has hair and I was looking for information very specific to the care regimen, treatment, and styling of locks. A what to expect/how to book specific to having locks is what I wanted and this book did not deliver. I really wanted advice more insightful and specific to life with natural locks. The book assumes I did not have hair before deciding to grow locks and goes into unnecessary detail about washing hair that I already knew. I felt belittled by that but it then falls short in areas of great interest like styling my locks at various stages of development. I am not familiar with the person who wrote the book but my husband recognized her from youtube and advised me that she does not even have locks. How can one write a manual without personal experience in the subject matter. I wanted my money back from the moment we got to flip through the book and after reading it reminding myself that at least someone tried is the only justification for the money spent. I consider it an investment in the hope that this inspires a better book to be written. I will however give the book credit for at least trying to tackle the subject of locks but this certainly does not qualify as a manual. I will seek out a book written by someone who has grown and lived with locks. The 3 stars given was for this being the first book I have seen on Amazon about locks. I hope it inspires a more qualified person to write a book giving real insight into making the choice and best practices for carrying out a life with locks.

Keep it movin'
Just okay, if you crave information, try the knotty truth (its a book) this was just enough info to let you know you need another book for info, but if this is your first book on dreads --you may like it and find it useful.

The author is wearing faux locs on her cover!
Please don't refer me to websites for information that should be included in the "book". There are quotations around the word book because this is more like a pamphlet. This not-quite-so informational pamphlet is mediocre at best. Information within can be found on line with just a little research. There are way better books out there, for example, The Knotty Truth and Nice Dreads. Also, I'm not sure anyone should glean loc information from a person who doesn't have locs and who attempts to pull the wool over their readers' eyes by wearing faux locs on the cover! Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

For a practical issue like hair, one needs some visuals
No visuals at all in this book and it does not give you the opportunity to understand this when you get to see inside it - I now know why! For a practical issue like hair, one needs some visuals; especially if you have decided to advertise it with a visual.
