Great alternative to always being tethered to a DAW
I’ve been using a computer DAW setup for quite a few years but I decided to purchase this for those times where I just want to hit record and go. The audio quality is excellent and the built in effects are very good. There are a few limitations such as the number of effects that can be used together and the editing is a bit more cumbersome with limitations. However, it’s a very easy process to take your recordings from the Tascam and export them to your DAW. I’m not abandoning my DAW completely, just adding another option. I will still do some editing and final mixing in my DAW for the tracks I record on the Tascam. I think it’s the best of both worlds to have both available. It’s also a great setup for mobile recording. You can record up to 8 tracks simultaneously with 32 total tracks and it’s a simple task to pack it up and go such as for recording a live band, etc. I think you can’t go wrong especially at this price.

A great way to enter into recording!
I have been playing music and recording for years on and off. Recently I wanted to get back into recording at my home. I am not crazy about PC based recording. I wanted an all in one unit that I could plug into with my mics, bass, drum pedal etc. This fit the bill perfectly. I was able to plug it in and record a song, mix it down and master it in about half an hour. Sure it takes a few times of following the quick guide that comes with it to really get the hang of it, but it is really easy to learn. Everything is built in for basic recording. The effects are basic but sound good. Everything goes onto an SD card. Once your done with your master, just plug your PC into the USB plug and download your song. If you want everything in one unit where you can start recording in your own home, I think you will love it.

If you owned a Tascam before you will like how many of the features stayed the same and how they made other functions simplifier. The storage method is superior to old hard drives. WAV files make it easy to send to Pro Tools and other systems. If you use Dropbox you can quickly share your work with anyone else. Thinner frame and much lighter. Quieter electronics and better DSPs. Thinner manual but not as easy to follow. Well worth the price. Great pre-amps and dual phantom power.

Professional results at a consumer price.
In 1977 I had an Akai 4000DS 7" reel 2 track where I ping ponged tracks to overdub. 1985 I had a Fostex 4 track cassette. 2002 a Fostex digital 8 track. So the next logical step was a 16 track. Not this time. No matter how many tracks I have it's never enough. So this time I went all out to get the most that's commercially available. It was well worth the money. To start out with the Tascam DP-32SD sounds fantastic. It has many effects although somewhat limited. For example if a little reverb is set for the lead vocal it is not possible to set more reverb on backup vocals. One setting goes across the board. There's probably a way around that like bouncing to another track with the desired effect but that creates more work.Even though I've been working with multi tracking for 40 years there's still a learning curve.(At least for for me.) For example on the 8 track I previously owned when I pressed the "undo" button a message appeared on the screen stating "undo in process. Please wait". With the Tascam I press "undo" and a red light comes on and that's all. I thought "Ok. Now what?" Once I figured it out, it's easy to do now.Nothing on this unit is difficult once you get the hang of it. It's like anything in life in. You take it one step at a time. I created a list of 7 things I needed to learn and actually try on the unit before I got started on anything serious. Just like in school when the teacher says "Read chapter 1 and do the exercises at the end of the chapter." As I tried and learned each step I wrote simplified procedures on 3X5 cards in case I got stuck later but that's just me. At my age my memory isn't that great.I don't have anything bad to say about this unit. The more I work with it the better I get at it. It has many effects to enhance the quality of the sound. Using the cut/paste/insert feature I can get the songs done much faster. All in all, the Tascam DP-32SD is a lot of fun to use. Wish I would've had it 40 years ago!

SO I GET IT BRAND NEW ..BEAUTIFUL MACHINE. I WAS HIGHLY ANTICIPATING THE WORK FLOW. TOOK THE TASCAM OUT OF THE BOX. SET IT UP AND POWERED IT ON ( NO PROBLEM) >YET< KEEP IN MIND IM VERY EXPERIENCED WITH STUDIO EQUIPMENT . IVE BEEN PRODUCING FOR 20 + YEARS.NOW > IM IN THE PREFERENCES DOING THE SET- UP FOR RECORDING AND INPUT ASSIGNMENTS. WELL ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO INTO GETTING ALL MY SETTINGS IN. THE MACHINE CUTS OFF. ..AT FIRST I WAS THINKING ( NO BIG DEAL) BECAUSE I KNEW IT HAS A STANDBY MODE . SO I HIT POWER TO CUT IT BACK ON AND TO MY COMPLETE SHOCK THERE WAS A DEAD SILENCE IN THE ROOM. . I FELT THAT GUT WRENCHING FEELING THAT THIS WAS NOT GOING TO BE GOOD. SMH. I SPENT 2 DAYS AND NIGHTS TRYING TO YOUTUBE AND GOOGLE A SOLUTION.
