Life of Fred Decimals and Percents

My son really enjoys this series and we have used everything, including Saxon & Teaching Textbooks (which are good as well but not as interesting & enjoyable). We will stick with this series, as he progresses into pre algebra and algebra. It teaches in a very enjoyable and unique way, laying a great foundation for life long learning and problem solving with the goal here being more than just skill repetition and just getting through Math. Very little parental involvement necessary, except when student comes to the Bridge (quiz & review).

This is my son's fourth Fred book. He is mid sixth grade level. He will do the pre-algebra books next. He thinks they are hilarious and can work them independently. There aren't very many practice problems each lesson though.

All of Life of Fred books are great. Rather than grill and drill with tons of problems, he teaches the student how to learn the information in a way that makes the remember it for years and years. Constantly reviewing what was already learned, but not by pages and pages of problems; but by a few problems every day of what was newly learned and what was learned in the past. We started with Life of Fred Fractions and Percents, and now are almost through Algebra 1. It was easy for me to relearn everything, and for me to retain it, too. The best books ever! Learn it, retain it, move on. Not wasting life doing pages of things you already know. Every single problem has an answer key IN THE BOOK with THOROUGH EXPLANATIONS! No need to buy student book, workbook, teachers book (and then not have money for food!). Just get the book and you are set. You can even e-mail the author and he will explain anything that you might be confused on.

Dr Schmidt does it again--fun with decimals and percents! We have been using Life of Fred for several years & have already purchased the next books. The only difficult thing--putting down the math book to do other studies.

My kids actually try to get their friends to read these. They are that FUN.

Book is exactly as I expected but the way my kids and me are learning math is fun and the way the book is set up, the material is being retained for the future. Well done! I am a fan and will be buying these as they apply to our level.

We'd been using Singapore math and had no problems, thought we'd try Life of Fred at a friend's recommendation. Son says he might like LofF a little better (less repetition), but he's still learning at a good clip and ready for the next book...

These are well written books that keep my sons interest. Math isn't his best subject but he gets it with these textbooks.
