In the distant future, earthquakes and the effects of global warming have splintered Japanese society. Some struggle hand-to-mouth in the jungle-tangled ruins of civilisation. Some live comfortably within the closed-off city of Atlas. Others lurk online, anonymously hacking the global economy. As nature grows more violent and the divide between classes expands, one spirited girl, Kuniko, must face her destiny and lead her people into the utopia of Atlas. The city’s ruthless government isn’t going to welcome them with open arms, but Kuniko won’t give up until the gates of Atlas are kicked open for good - even if it means discovering that the promised land she dreamed of is built upon a foundation of twisted secrets and lies.

It had promise, but turned out to just be average
As I've noticed this hasn't a review, I feel I should give an honest review on my impressions on this anime. Now I know most people tend to get their anime reviews elsewhere, and why wouldn't you? but I'm not sure if that applies to everyone. So let me first say I tried to love this anime, I wanted to like it more than I ended up liking it, there were some really good fun characters in it, mainly Mikuni and Momoko. The problem is that there are too many characters and too few episodes, you are trying to understand all their motivations and who is who, but the reality is that apart from a few, they just don't get enough screen time.As for plot, well the first part the story and pacing works quite well, it gets you wanting to know more and keeps you guessing, there are moments that don't make much sense, but either these are set up for the twists and tangents that happen later that are so rushed that you don't feel like you really got a satisfying answer for all the questions, or they forgot to answer points because they were trying to cram everything into a 24 part series.Everything starts to break off on tangents about half way, more and more plot points get thrown at you in a haphazard way and it starts to feel rushed, then before you know where you are you're into the end and you kind of feel like you might have missed a bit and the ending isn't as satisfying as you hoped. This anime had some really good ideas, it held a lot of promise and I would have loved to have given it four or five stars, however it failed to live up to it's promise, it instead left you with an okay anime with good ideas and some interesting characters that starts out well, but ultimately is average at best.Every single problem would have been resolved by making the series longer so they could spend more time with the characters and better pace the plot and side stories.
