Geekerella: A Fangirl Fairy Tale: 1 (Once Upon A Con)

Any animosity I had towards this book when I first discovered that it was another adaptation of Cinderella was Blasted away by a brilliant premise and glorious writing. Elle is by far a much more relatable heroine for me than her counterpart in the original tale for a myriad of reasons but mainly because of her passion and strength (and her love for her fandom!). Darien is the best version of Prince Charming there has ever been. He is a fully fleshed out character with his own dilemmas and issues. The way the original tale was used, as a base and built upon in such a way that apart for a ball, the loss of a shoe and the names Geekerella and Carmindor you would never figure out Cinderella inspired this fantastic work of art, is amazing! I adore the way fandoms were incorporated, I fell for Starfield and the characters involved and wish I could watch the series for myself (if it does actually exist, which I doubt Highly, would someone let me know, please! If not, someone needs get to work on making it a reality!) Geekerella has redeemed Cinderella for me, I will reread it many times over in my lifetime I can assure you and hopefully it endures just the way the original fairytale has for millennia......Thank you Ashley for turning Cinderella into a fairytale I can finally love just as deeply as the rest!

I enjoyed this Cinderella inspired story but I'm afraid it was a little too similar to my all time fave book Cinder and Ella by Kelly Oram for me to really love it. Perhaps if I'd read this first I would have enjoyed it more but while I did enjoy the way it looks at the negative side of fandoms it just felt like a rehash of something I'd already read.

If there's any kind of romance book I'll love - it's a geeky romance. Geekerella is right up there with the geekiest!Yes, it has a very predictable plot with twists and turns you can see coming a mile away - but it's amazing fun to read.I finished reading this with a massive smile plastered on upon my face.

Loved this. Very traditional Cinderella story with a space fandom background.If you love this try Cinder and Ella or not cinderella's type.Really enjoyed. Loved the characters especially Sage.

There are so many emotions I felt reading this but really it made me feel at home and as if I belonged like how I felt when I first entered a fandom and found people like me. This is a book I recommend to any fan, no matter what fandom or level of obsession. You will fall in love with the great writing and fun characters and little references. It has been nothing less then inspiring to read this, so thank you dear author.

Really loved this modern fairy tale retelling, geek style. Loved getting the different POV of their lives as they meet up. Very cute and fluffy.

First book in years to make me cry! Geekerella is such a brilliant story about acceptance, I couldn't help but fall head over heels!

This book was adorable and I didn't want it to end. It is one of my new favourite books. It was a wonderful love letter to all things fandom and fluffy very well written fairytale romance that had a great amount of heart .

Hmm vermutlich hätte ich 3 1/2 Sterne gegeben, leider ging es nicht.An sich finde ich die Idee nicht schlecht.Wie man am Titel und dem Cover sehen kann ist das ganze ein abgewandelte Cinderella version mit einem auf Conventions gehenden Fangirl als Cinderella.Wie gesagt: an sich eine niedliche Idee.Leider fand ich die Stiefmutter und Stiefschwester Nummer eins total bescheuert und... ich weiß nicht zu übertrieben um glaubwürdig zu sein? Gut vermutlich gibt es auch solche Menschen... aber diese beiden haben mir echt das Lesen etwas vermiest.Die Hauptcharaktere hingegen fand ich in Ordnung. Etwas... komisch hier und da, aber sonst gut.Der "böse" der Geschichte war mir etwas zu platt... und da ich auf gute Bösewichte stehe war dieser Punkt für mich ein ziemlicher Flopp irgendwie.Aber für das schnelle Lesevergnügen, mit viel Drama und Liebe ohne sehr viel Tiefgang ist es gut geeignet

But I was also excited to know how the author has retold the story of Cinderella..The artistry and brilliance of the author is clearly evident as she gave a modern touch to the story of a lonely girl living with her wicked stepmother and she has transformed it into a completely different story by adding the elements of Science Fiction.We meet Elle, a geek girl obsessed and smitten by 'Starfield' which is a show being remade into a movie. On the other hand we have Darien, the lead actor of the movie. Their love for the show brings them together in the most unusual way. Read this one to find out how Elle and Darien struggle, deal with anxiety but most importantly, express their love for 'Starfield'..Why to read the book: If you want to relive your childhood, grab this one. You will be definitely filled with excitement each time you'll spot a parallel to the fairy tale. A world of Instagram and Pinterest coupled with whole lot of modern references serves as a delightful and entertaining ride for the readers. The Pumpkin Carriage, Shoe and Ball Dance have been rendered a fun and contemporary refashioning.So, if you're in a mood to reminisce your childhood, pick this one and enjoy!

It was just okay. I really wanted to love this book.

A convention? A fairy tale retelling? Sign me the hell up for this. That was all I knew before I read the book. But it was easy to find into the story, which is told from Elle’s and Darien’s POVs. Elle’s character is based on Cinderella and you get right thrown into the story where she has a talk with her stepmother and her stepsisters. Elle is a really nice, cute girl who is quite alone except for internet friends she knows from forums and the blog she is running. I don’t really need to say much about her character because she is Cinderella, like, she is that character but in a modern world. And she is absolutely lovely, I enjoyed her chapters so much!Darien is a famous, black young actor who suffers from fame and his controlling dad/manager. He was really great, too, and I just wanted him to be happy. Actually, he has a wonderful personality but Elle doesn’t realize this at first and critizies him on her blog. But through a „wrong number“ incident they start talking and falling in love and let me tell you, this love story is sso incredibly cute. How it develops, how they talk. And both of them are huge nerds and I was so happy about every reference I understood. So many fandoms and parts of fan culture are mentioned, pros and cons of it discussed. And it is wonderful. Their relationship is just so good and pure. I’d really like to read more about the two of them, because of all the cuteness.Another important character is Sage, Elle’s best friend and co-worker in the vegan food truck of Sage’s mum. She talks her mind, has awesome green hair, designs and makes clothes and is a lesbian. And an absolute badass. She was a lot of fun to read, her character is so good and sarcastic and she stands up for herself, for her friends. She’s one of those characters who have a positive aura and you just think „Yes! Yes!“ Really, she is great.The plot was good, too. I loved this Cinderella retelling in our modern world. Everything fit very well into the original story, but also into the 21st century. And all the geek and nerd stuff thrown in between was just lovely. The writing style was super easy to read, light and fit the book’s atmosphere.Overall, Geekerella is a very enjoyable, light read that will put a smile on your face!

Me gusto todo lo que hablaron sobre ser un fan de una serie.que implica. Como los ve la gente. Lo que sientes x que tu serie. Comic. Película o lo que sea favorita este en una convención. La parte romántica tambien me pareció muy bien. Solo tuve algo de dificultades con la protagonista x ser.... Tan dejada. .... En fin lo disfrute mucho

I loved this book. It was simple and predictable but hit my right in the feels. My geek heart loved how well Poston captured the essence of belonging to a fandom and what it means to people who never quite felt like the belong in society. Everyone who has been called a geek or nerd or loser because they live and love extraordinary stories and get attached to fictional characters will love it!

Geekerella is a novel I had been wondering about for a long long time. And today, when I finally read it, I JUST couldn't put it down!It's the perfect gift for anyone! Geeky, Dorky, Adorable and beautifulky written, Geekerella will have you laughing in joy and will have your heart wrenching in it's imaginary made up Starfield fandom. You'll feel bad for Prince Carmindor and Princess Amara. You'll cosplay. In short, this book will be the most adorable and wonderful one you ever got your hands on!Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.

A cute cinderella retelling, happening today. It's fun to read, the story is interesting with likeable characters and of course some less likeable (like the step sister lol).I really enjoyed reading it!!!

I liked this book, it was fun. You can give me anything which says Cinderella and I can read the hell out of it. But there were certain things that got a star down. On the upside, the book is gorgeous, and the paper quality is the best. And it is a Cinderella retelling.Great condition, no flaws at all.

Llego muy bien. No llegó empaquetado, pero el precio lo vale y además está enterito. La novela en sí es un muy adolescente y bonita. Recomendado a todos aquellos que están practicando leer en inglés.

Esperava muito mais desse livro, mas é só mais uma versão boba de conto de fadas. A autora tentou misturar ficção científica, mas o "universo" que ela criou é patético.
