Light, Casual Poker-Based Game
Everyone starts with 15 coins, 2 poker cards, and 1 role card. At the start of the game, the first player draws another 2 poker cards and 1 role card (4 poker cards and 2 role cards) and play continues clock-wise around the table with the other players drawing the same. Your goal is to build the best 5-card poker hand before everyone else. For every card you put on the table, you use 1 coin. If/when you play a role card, they are free and no limit to the number you can play. When you put down your 5-cards down, and it's a valid poker hand, you get the Button. If your turn comes back around and no one else has claimed the Button, you win the pot. At the end of your turn, you can't have more than 5 cards in your hand and 5 on the table.Well, my kids and I really like Drawing Dead. When building your 5-card poker hand on the table, there is risk with what you put down since some role cards affect them, but other role cards also affect what is in your hand. You have to balance the two carefully. We do have some house rules with certain role cards to "help" the game since the role cards cycle faster with more players...and some of them can be disruptive if they are cycling fast.I'd also like to point out this is a good game for younger players. My son (11) and daughter (13) are just getting into card games from board games, so this is a nice, light game with a set of familiar cards/rules (normal poker deck) that eases them into the role cards that affect player hands. Additionally, I'm surrounded by non-gamers, so a game like this is easy to pick up versus something like Hocus. Even though the game appears "simple", there are role card combinations that require some thought to use. Again, a nice primer for casual players and I truly believe this is the audience for the game.
