The Hollow Paperback – February 20, 2017

This book kept me turning the pages, a great read for most readers

I enjoyed reading this book very much. There were unexpected turns and the characters are well developed. I kept wanting to read to see what happened next. It gripped me from page 1.

This is an excellent novel with a plot based on childhood trauma and trauma locked away. After a dozen years the past percolates up. More in the style of a European novel in exploring the protagonist's processing while still having a lot of action like an American work. First novel promises readers more excellent writing is to come.

I started reading this book to support a new author. I finished reading this book in 3 days (it would have been less had I not had to go to work) because I could not put it down! Nicole has the skillful writing and thoughtfulness to create a character in Elllie that is relatable, both in her mid-twenties and as a "tween". The character development is so well done that you find the plot twists to be reasonable and believable because of course this would be happening to Ellie! If you ever lived in a small town, struggled to find your way in life and love, ...and if you love a suspenseful page turner, you will enjoy The Hollow. Can't wait for the next book from Nicole Barrell.

I thought the story line was developed as were the characters. I began reading and was interrupted too many times to get a strong feel of the beginning but read the middle to the end straight through and was very entertained. Knowing the landmarks made it fun too! I'm left wondering if I know some of the characters or parts of them? Way to go Nicole! I wish the best for you, Anna (Belle Pepper)

This book is such a fun, suspenseful read! Ellie is someone I think we can all relate to (the early 20's were such a tumultuous time) and the way she writes about her workplace is snarky and funny. I especially loved the scenes with the psychiatrist...I couldn't wait to see what would happen in each session. As you delve deeper and deeper into Ellie's psyche and memories, you get closer to finding out what happened (no spoilers here) but it definitely makes you want to keep reading!

I literally could not put this book down! From the very first chapter, the character Ellie drew me in and I just had to find out what had happened to her! I really hope there’s a sequel!

This novel is a well-developed unfolding of a young woman's paralyzing early life event. The story blossoms from a sad current glimpse of this woman's life to a dramatic life experience which is frightening and life-threatening. The climax deals with her mother's betrayal by keeping the early life tragedy from her. As the story ends, one believes there is resolution and hope for the main character. This is a well-paced yarn from a new author. One hopes for more.
