American Gigolo

This movie was a hit in its day and the actors look great in their Armani clothes that could be worn today to good effect. The plot is a little contrived to give it some interest besides Richard Gere having sex for money. Still worth a second viewing if you saw it back in the 80s.

The low reviews are funny. What did you think you were going to be watching based on the title? Shakespeare? It was everyone's chance to stare at Richard Gere! And then we all fell in love with that crazy Virgo. We are still watching him. What is he how? 72? Still as hot as the day we met him. He is the American Gigolo.

Movie 7 of 1980 and 77 overall in my journey through films of my lifetime.Of all the films of the 70's none were more 70's than this. From the decor to the fashion and even it's conspiratorial plot line. There was even some disco to be seen. I assume these things were still in vogue during pre production and filming so I shouldn't be surprised.I am impressed with the body of work from director Paul Schrader. In particular the way he turns physical intimacy on its head. He makes you ask questions about your own fantasies. Unfortunately his stories seem to be drug down by Hollywood pop plot points. "American Gigolo" suffered from this as much as "Hardcore" did. Honestly I would have liked it more if it had simply investigated the life of the main character. It could have been a deep dive into the life of a male flesh peddler. Some of that is there but not enough. Oh and spoiler... he falls in love AND love saves the day! Sounds cheesy? That's because it is. Too bad really because this could have been special. As it was it was merely entertaining.Pros-Richard Gere is a good lead-interesting characters-never bored meCons-only lightly brushes deep concepts so we end up short of greatness-drab esthetic, great if you loved the 70's

Der Chef der Szene möchte ihm aber nur helfen,wenn der Call-Boy wieder für Ihn arbeitet, was der nicht will,weil er die Schwulen-Spiele satt hat.Hilfe wird ihm im aller letzten Augenblick zu teil von der Gattineines sehr bekannten Politikers, die ihren Ruf, ihre Ehe, ihre Ehre und dessen Wiederwahl aufs Spiel setzt.Am Anfang ihrer Bekanntschaft wollte sie "gelangweilte"Gattin nur einen (wörtlich) "Fick", der ihr eine Zeit lang nichtgewährt worden ist.Die beiden Protagonisten, er und sie, sehen fantastisch aus.Die Verzweiflung der Suche nach einem Alibi ist hautnah spürbar."Lustige" Dialoge gibt es allenfalls zwischendem Inspektor und dem Call-Boy, als er die Gefahr einerVerhaftung noch nicht so hoch einschätzt.

Apreciei a forma bem ordenada como o realizador criou as cenas do seu repertório e penso que a intriga evolui com alguma tensão mas quem se deixar conduzir pela interacção dos personagens pode aprender diversas lições no respeitante à rectificação da corrupção e ao controlo exercido pela lei judicial. Foi interessante ver o filme até ao seu final, que é surpreendente.
