Thank You
I am only part way (though much skipping around) into this book. However, I'm greatful to finally find a resource to help me understand and be proactive with a rescue terrier (mix) breed that I've never encountered before. Since childhood there have been Hunting breeds in my life. Hounds, Setters, Spanials, etc. Also GSD, dashhounds, and the good old fashioned Mutt. As an adult I raised herding dogs, English Sheepdogs, and a Border Collie. In later in life a adopted a Miniature Schnauzer. Until I rescued a Yorkie/MinPin mix, I had never experienced such an independent, non affectionate, willful, stubborn, highly reactive dog. An eye opener. Through trial and error I began to realize unless I made training into a fun game, she wanted Nothing to do with it.I was bewildered. So I dug into resources and found Dawn's book.....at last! I'm not crazy. These goofy, smart, agile, highly alert, very protective little bundles require a way of their own in becoming the Best Dog You Ever Had

Perfect Book for Terrier Families
We got an Airedale Terrier puppy. This book really "gets" our dog. It explains in very eloquent and clear terms how Terriers think, how they function, and what you need to know to turns them into perfect members of your "pack". Thanks to the "bubble" idea, we trained the puppy to walk on a leash in the street in a few days of using the principles. He is open to petting, which Airedales are notorious about not wanting, and our son who is 12 is training the puppy without any difficulty (I am using the way we have been able to train the puppy on our son, and it works, too!). Our Airedale has been calm, learning everything at lightning speed and has channelled all his capacity for destruction into playfulness and social skills. LOVE IT!

Greatly improved my relationship with my Terrier.
3 yrs after my last Terrier died I decided to get another pup, my 3rd Westie. I'm now in my 60s and had forgotten how much work puppies are. There are many more dogs around than there were 17 yrs ago when got my last one.Although I took her to puppy training classes I struggled with my Terrier. At times I thought I might have to give her up as she had bitten both me & my husband several times. She is incredibly wilful, far more than I remember the others being. I sent for this book in desperation hoping it might help. Fortunately it did, in two ways.Firstly it helped me understand the world from a Terrier's point of view. It helped me set realistic training goals.Secondly, the training exercises really work. As they are specifically designed for Terriers they help to both moderate and reward the dogs natural behaviour.Since I started using these exercises my dog hasn't bitten me at all and she is much more affectionate and settled. I am so pleased I bought this book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to Terrier owners.

Amazing insight into the Terrier Psyche
I’ve always owned and trained herding/protection breeds such as German Shepherds and Border Collies until recently when we decided a caravan friendly sized dog would better suit the stage we are at now in our lives. However after researching, then purchasing our first Tenterfield Terrier, I realised there is a massive difference between the training method for a Shepherd as opposed to that of a Terrier. 😳 Long story short, I was getting absolutely nowhere until in desperation I googled books for Terrier training. By the time I was three chapters intoTerrier-Centric Dog Training, we had completely turned around. Reni will now reliably sit, drop, stay, touch (her nose to the back of my fingers) speak, leave (ignore something she wants) retrieve a ball and return it to me AND, most importantly (and surprisingly) RECALL roughly 95% of the time. All of this and she is only 18 weeks of age. This book was all I needed to change my mindset and training habits, to suit her style of learning. I would recommend this book to any Terrier parent. My only regret is that I wish I’d bought the book before the dog.Best purchase I’ve made this year.

Great book for terrier owners
This book really explains how you cannot take what the dog was originally bred for completely out of the dog. This book teaches the owner how to train your terrier bearing in mind you cannot train out what the dog was originally bred for completely out of the terrier.
