A Big Price for a Big Box
First of all let's look at the price and the disks. It comes out to about $4.50 per movie. A very good price. But you get so much more than just a movie. Most of the disks contain outstanding extras like cast interviews, a making of the movie documentary, etc. It is more than I have ever gotten buying a single Hammer film for more money. The transfer quality is the best I have ever seen. These are the original UK releases not the US versions which sometimes were altered. As to the selection of what movies are included, I have no idea what the criteria was. It does not include most of their best films. I don't know if they were choosing what they though were less seen films, less purchased films, etc. There are several films included that I have never seen and I'm a fairly serious horror collector. One delight is The Nanny with Betty Davis.I do have one complain with the set which will not put most off. I don't hear as well as others and I rely a lot on subtitles and these disks have none. That seems rather cheap for the cost and if you look at single disks of these films, most do have subtitles.I would recommend this collection to any collector of horror films.I missed my big chance several years back. It was during the time that Hammer went dark and it appeared that Hammer films had come to an end. There was a small UK Hammer site that offered EVERY movie that Hammer ever made to that point. At the time I did not know how to play Region 2 movies in the US and it was fairly expensive, so I passed. The worst buying decision I have ever made. I would think some would show up used for huge prices but I have never seen it for sale again. However, there is NO ECUSE for there not being a region 1 release. Typical British snobery. They stll belive there is is a British Emire that ones a 5th of the work. They can sink in to ocean for all I care. A total contry of snobs.

Worth every penny!
I got this as an early Christmas present, and after finishing the whole set, I can say that I was glad I spent my money on this. I am a lover of old Hammer films, so it really gave me a thrill to watch all of these movies, and I will definitely watch them again in the future! Anyone who is a fan of Hammer films will truly love this box set! It is a perfect reason to buy a multi-region DVD player

How to watch in region 1 areas
As a big fan of Hammer Horror, I am quite pleased with this collection. Granted it is a region 2 so I put in the first disk in my computer with PowerDVD open and it will ask you to change to region 2 (from region 1 in the US - you have a few times you can change your region on your computer). After changing the region to play these region 2 DVDs, then open a program such as DVD decrypter and copy the disk eliminating the region codes altogether. The result will be a DVD folder with the movie without any region coding. Use any DVD copying program to now make you a region free version of the movie you just copied in and you can watch the movie on any home DVD player. Two of the DVDs are dual-layered so you will also need DVD shrink to shrink the file down to regular DVD size. (This information is to make these available for your own use - not to resell).

One of the best reasons for having an all region dvd/Blu-ray Player
One of the best reasons for having an all region dvd/Blu-ray Player ,it is a shame that Hammer Horror films were only considered B-films in their heyday because they are on par or better than anything created in Hollywood. The sound on these DVDs is excellent along with the added bonus features. With 21 films and the awesome box that it comes in anywhere around a hundred dollars for a used edition is a great find. With DVDs sales sliding ,chances of an American region release go down each year.

Awesome Collection/ Awesome Transfers
If you are a fan of Hammer Horror this set is a must have, I have been watching one or 2 every night, and enjoying it immensely, and most of the films have a lot of re-play value, transfers are awesome, one of my favorite / most solid purchases, in a while, Thank You Hammer!

Thought i missed the boat as this collection came and went in Australia. Although i have a multi region dvd player i thought as the discs were region 2 that they might play on my Aussie players, and they do. A great selection of Hammer titles, ranging from the 1950's through to the 1970's. They were however very slow to arrive, but well worth the wait.

Absolutely essential for Hammer fanatics
I just had to post a review of this Hammer collection box set. It has provided me with countless hours of entertainment. Please note that this review is for the more slimline version and not the mammoth 20 disc box set (which is at the time of conducting this review, much more expensive than this newer edition). The bonuses of this edition include the fact that it is very compact and won’t take up much space on your DVD shelf. The second is that the discs all include stunning artwork (but no individual cases). Lastly, unlike its predecessor, this box set comprises Straight on till Morning which does not feature in the previous Ultimate Hammer set. As many other reviewers have correctly pointed out, this set does NOT include the original Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein, The Mummy or The Curse of the Werewolf. Admittedly this is disappointing but I certainly can’t complain with all that is on offer in this box set. My personal favourites are Plague of the Zombies, Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Reptile, The Witches and Quatermass and the Pit. Fans of the Hammer House of Horror series (which is available to purchase separately on DVD and Blu Ray) will particularly like Fear in the Night which has a fun twist to it. There are also some of Hammer’s more historical films included in this set including The Viking Queen and One Million Years B.C. (let’s not get into historical accuracy!) which are very enjoyable. The fact that this lovely set also includes a comprehensive booklet on the history of Hammer along with trivia for each of the films certainly makes this set a must buy. I hope that you have found this review helpful. :)
