Bought this in place of an expensive side awning for micro camping in conjunction with my Citroen Berlingo. I suffer from chronic fatigue so needed something that was easy to put up and take down on my own. This was both. One practice run at home and it was so easy to put up within 5 minutes when I actually camped out. The second photo shows it more like an umbrella mechanism.I'm not sure how well it would cope with severe weather but it was fine in the rain. At 5'6" I couldn't quite stand up fully in it and think that the internal height and the fact that there is no clear cover on the openings to create windows so that you could shelter in heavy rain but still have some light are the only downsides. That said because of the design it's pretty sheltered inside and would require one or two of the side panels to be pulled down and you'd be fine.The side door panel can be used an awning type cover if you are sleeping in the van. It's a bit short in height but a bit of creative tying with the provided guide lines worked. All the panels open and there are mesh fly screens on all sides with two providing zippered doorways.I couldn't fit it back in to the bag it came in but have used an Ikea zip up bag designed for their luggage dolly thing and just the top 8" stick out. It's perfect and it's also very light weight. All in all I would recommend and will be using it throughout the summer.
