Very good product

This ferro rod is ok. Just ok. It's not great. The rod itself is short and skinny so there's not enough striking surface to actually throw a good amount of sparks. The protective coating takes some effort to get off so it takes a little time before the rod is ready to throw sparks for that first use. The "Paracord" that keeps the striker with the rod, is very short and works better when it's untied and free from the rod. That defeats the purpose of tying them together so neither piece gets lost. I found the wooden handle to be the best part. It is comfortable to hold and allows for better grip when striking the rod. The handle is why I rate this item at 4 stars instead of 3. This ferro rod also doesn't come with instructions. So, if somebody who hasn't used this type of item before, doesn't realize the protective covering needs to be worn off before the rod is usable, they could think the rod doesn't work at all.It does work. It needs improvement on the design before I can say "it works well." It's a value for the price, but you do get what you pay for in this instance.

This is a sturdy, easy to use ferro rod. It makes good, clean sparks. Added to the bug out gear. Would recommend.
