Put this in your virtual backpack!
It’s helpful. It’s a gift to people. It goes some way to making coaching more accessible. It’s structured in a way that really appeals to me. It's very practical, like a handbook to keep close by with question sets for each practice to guide your reflection and action planning.I love the topics chosen for the 12 practices and even the order they're addressed. I appreciated the author's years of corporate experience that preceded her becoming a coach and writing this book. It’s packed with academic references for those who want guidance that's evidence based as well as the author's own experiences as a coach and as a leader.I found it a valuable addition to my leadership library and will be recommending to clients and friends.

Fabulous read. Practical and effective.
The book starts with the reader reflecting and determining what their true north is and helps them navigate the uncertainties in getting there. There’s a great piece on value based goals that remain constant as long as your values are broadly unchanged.Periodically looking at yourself in the mirror to increase your self awareness is a practice that leaders are loathe to indulge in, but is a critical part of self improvement. Karen walks you through how you can do this in a disciplined and effortless way.Leading with positive energy, actually listening to people, and better time management are all covered in her book. For me, what resonated most was the chapter on leading with Kindness. Karen explains how kindness builds deeper connections, and more importantly, these acts multiply exponentially. People that have been touched by these acts, pay it forward.I’ve been an Executive Coach for many years, and there are many learnings that I will both leverage for myself, as well as for the benefit of my clients and those around me.Fabulous read.

Karen Stein has written an exceptional book on leadership. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, as well as extremely strong academic credentials, Karen has written a thoughtful and highly readable guide to being your own leadership coach. This is one of those rare books that more than lives up its title. It is evident that the book has been well researched and is solidly evidenced based.
