Sculpture: Principles and Practice (Dover Art Instruction)

A well rounded book on traditional method of sculpture and even gave great concepts on architectural sculpture.

This is a great old book and its cheap I got it for like total of 5 bucks you can't go wrong with this if you like sculpting traditionally and want to learn how they did it several years ago.

This book had some very nice chips in it and I can refer back to it if I want.

If you purchase this book knowing you are getting an outdated book you may enjoy it more. It has some good info in a few areas, especially in basic clay-up, but lacks in most modern mold making techniques. The sculpture in this book is basically classical to put it simply. I would still recommend this book especially to beginners.

As a novice this book did not appeal to me as it seemed a bit dated, considering the materials and different ideas that have now come to light.

This book was purchased as a gift for a student majoring in sculpting at the Academy of Art in San Francisco.He has found it to be very useful and informative while pursueing his studies.

This is a good book and i am pleased with it. Came on time according to the order dates.

I had read as much of this book as Google Books allowed and so I knew what to expect.The clear workmanlike approach to plaster mold making is well worth the price of the book. The author takes a classic approach and uses classic technique and that is why I bought the book.As other reviews mention, for modern materials and related methods this is not the book to buy.Definitely a worthwhile read if you intend working from a clay model to create plaster molds.

Unlike the other reviewer I found this to be an extremely helpful book when starting with sculpture. I found that the illustrations to be well placed, enabling me to cast a clay head in plaster successfully. I have many books aimed at the novice sculptor but Slobotkin's is undoubtedly the best. The illustrations of sculpture through history are well chosen and thought-provoking. The book mainly deals with techniques of modelling and carving, giving plenty of practical advice.if you are interested in conceptual art, look elsewhere.

Great book. Content may be old, but its not to dated. Learned some interesting techniques.
