Contemporary issues in an ancient other world setting.
I'm addicted to Robin Hobbs. She tells the most exciting and innovative stories of high adventure while subtlety weaving insights of high human values. Her stories sneak up on you, and then you cant put them down.

are we there yet
Could have been a great 2 part book, why then did the author decide to write it as a trilogy. In no way should it have been extended, was a lot of nothing and as usual for this genre the need to repeat the last book, by the time you flicked through the condensed version of the last book you have found that it has taken up at least 3-4 chapters. What I found even worse than that was the need to go over the story later in the book. Obviously she must written this way because she had forgotten the story line herself. Robin Hobb has always been one of my favorite authors but I will be taking a spell from her books as I think she should as well

A little disappointed
I struggled with this one because on one hand you had the usual great depth of writing that Robin Hobb is renowned for, but on the other you had two and four fifths books of a not very likeable hero. He annoyed me most of the way through the books because he simply didn't have the dimensions I've come to expect from her main characters. There just wasn't anything about Nevare to grab hold of. To be honest the whole story could have been told in a single book - there was far too much attention paid to developing a background at the cost of developing a workable relationship with Nevare.

I love reading Robin Hobbs
Adding these Robin Hobbs books to my stack of book if hers to read in the Far-seer Story. Castles, adventure, dragons, telepathy, wolf friends.

Slow starter, great story.
I'm a huge Robin Hobbs fan, and have read all her other books. This trilogy was slow to get going, but by the time I was well into the 3rd book I didn't want it to end. Would love to see more from this world.

Robin Hobb has continued the previous seen practice of using repetition to fill out what would otherwise be excellent reads. The trilogy could have been just two books and had more of an impact on the reader. I have previously said in reviews of Hobb's books that the author seems to want to build in stereotypes, but in this trilogy the stereotypes appear and then get knocked over and for this reason the books represented a good read, even if tediously long at times.

Addictive.
Robin Hobb has the ability to weave a world so real you can't help but feel affected to your core. I simply devour her books. 5 stars for the Liveship series.

Hard going
As usual, Hobbs writes a good story, but this one is much darker than her other trilogies. The story borrows heavily from the western settler story in the states, with the plains people being dispossessed of their land and the Hill people' s bucolic existence threatened by the progress of the great road. The Military Academy is a dead ringer for Westpoint etcAlthough the premise is an interesting one, nothing good seems to happen to any-one and you are drawn into this cycle of despair through the books.I read to the end, but it was hard going!

Destruction of Cultures
Whilst I enjoyed the trilogy, I found some aspects somewhat boring as long-winded description wasn't required for me. In addition the dialogue between the two aspects of the main character was at times hard to follow, particularly as Soldier Boy's personality wanted to dominate. Whilst it is fiction, it certainly portrayed a scenario that has been reflected in many parts of our world and has resulted in the devestation cultures leading to many lost souls

Four Stars
I always enjoy the fantasy of Robin Hobb , however I found this trilogy somewhat depressing.

Great books, definitely worth the read.
Great to have a completely different sort of story to the sci fi fantasy books I've read so far.
