This is extremely cool. I bought it to try to figure how it works so I could do a diy cup, but haven’t figured it out yet.

Obviously you are buying this mug for the heat sensitive aspect of the design and that works wonderfully. My coworkers love seeing the dino skins disappear and the skeletons reveled so it's a great conversation starter. Another added bonus of heat sensitive design is that you can visually tell if your coffee has cooled off. It should be noted that it is a wide mug and will not fit in a typical mug warmer. I use a wider candle warmer instead. The mug is ceramic so it will not survive a fall if you drop it. Unfortunately I tested this myself and the mug did in fact break in two when I dropped it but I love this mug so much that I bought it again.

My 12 year old son loves dinosaurs so I bought this mug for him and he loves it. He love it even more since it changes when you add hot liquid into it. He has used it so many times and it still looks great. Hasn’t faded at all. It’s a great gift.

Really quite an amazing mug! It's been two months and I use it about three times a week, hand washing every time very, very gently. Still in pristine condition! Have not noticed what most people say as a color fading.Some tips:Do everything the instructions tell you. Also let anyone who may do the dishes know about the care instructions. Once when I had left it at the sink counter (to wash later) I found it in the dishwasher, right before I started it! So thankful I don't trust the hubby to remember all the ones that can't go in the washer. This is pricey to replace!The mug changes very well, however, it's a "fresh" cup of coffee mug, or a water heater mug. It doesn't show its best as a "warm up for one minute" mug, the magic really happens when you pour fresh hot liquids into it. However, it does not take very long at all to start changing.The VERY bottom of the mug does not change for me. This could be a problem with all the mugs or just mine, but on the very bottom where the dinosaur labels would be if it were to change, they only change halfway because it does not sit exactly where the hot liquid would be. It is further down, meaning hot liquid never actually touches it and it does not change fully.In all, this mug is fantastic IF you treat it like super delicate and fine china.Don't wash it in super hot temperatures or with a scratchy/brand new sponge, don't scrub at it too long on the outside AT ALL as one quick soapy and soft swipe should be fine. Treat this like a display, even if you use it a lot.

This mug is fun and whimsical and works as promised; hot water reveals dinosaur skeletons and museum columns. This mug is a great gift for the budding paleontologist or dinosaur lover.As far as design is concerned, this is shorter and wider than many standard mugs which I prefer; the base is more stable, and drinks cool slightly faster for optimal drinking temp.Though this was fun while it lasted, even with careful hand washing only, the outside decal which reveals the image changing has completely peeled off. We had a good year or two, but after that, the decal does not stand up. The mug is now just white.Overall, a fun product but perhaps not for daily use!

My wife received an under-the-sea heat changing mug for her birthday and without any idea which one of us - her, the non-coffee cup using person or me, the daily brewer - used it or who could possibly have placed it erroneously in the dishwasher but what can be said for certain and without doubt is that it was completely ruined. In spite of not being able to clearly determine fault for this horrible crime I decided to purchase two heat changing in order to, again without admitting any inherent fault, aid her in lowering the level of husband-directed anger.This was one of them and she absolutely loves it. Luckily, it arrived before I was found with shards of her ruined mug extruding from my still-pulsating jugular without any clear fault, of course. It turns out that the 98.6F temperature of my blood is indeed enough to elicit the change, sadly it is much slower than coffee so I ended up much more pale that intended but suffice to say with the blood from the cheek cuts wasn't quite enough so now I have some handsome scars on my neck too. She says they will heal nicely and I'll finally look like a man. Maybe. She did add the maybe.
