Great quality and beautiful dissolvable colors.
They are just as shown. They come in a nice tin and cardboard sleeve. They feel softer or creamier than Neocolor II crayons which I owned before in a 40 set. These feel more like the creamiest pastel in your hand like a Sennelier oil pastel. They dissolve easily to create a surprisingly watercolour like wash. They are just slightly semi-opaque. The advantage of these for me is that when used with the Caran D'Ache two-sided palette it is like having a watercolour set where you can mix paint easily. The accompanying palette was on the recommendation of YouTuber - 'The Art Spirits' in a video she has on color mixing with Neocolor II. I bought these Lyras to go with the palette instead because they seem less milky looking than Neocolor II's and had more natural colours. I use it to do colour studies and compositions in my watercolor journal or artwork that I will scan since the colours are so distinct and clear. I think these would also be great for colouring books and mixed media journaling and painting. They are very worth the cost. Keep them in a cool dry place. If you are thinking about which set to get, the 48 set is completely worth it. I would work with these when I want a consistent mixed colour or to select a palette of colours for a project since these can range from more gouache-like to more watercolour-like depending on the concentration. Caution: don't dip these directly in the water as they are prone to splitting since they are so pigmented with apparently less waxy binder. This is the advantage of using it with the palette mentioned earlier. You can color swatches unto the palette and use it like you would use a watercolor pan set.

Excellent product
I have these along with some caran d'ache water-soluble pastels. I prefer these although I love both. The reason I prefer these is I know the individual lightfast ratings per pastel, provided right there on the tin. And though I have not done any tests, caran d'ache claims lightfastness but i have not found the individual ratings (possibly somewhere on a site someplace), and of those online reviewers who have tested them, they claim there are actually some frugal colors. So i give Lyra props for providing that information transparently. In terms of blending, I think the caran d'ache are slightly smoother in terms of blending one color into another but it is a very small difference. Lyra still blends extremely well and layers very well. You can produce pretty much any color range through layering and blending with the 24 pack, although I am eyeing the 48 pack simply because I'm greedy. In terms of water solubility, the Lyra's do equally well with caran d'ach. They melt down very well and you can pull color off of the tips of the pastels very easily with a soft watercolor brush, no scrubbing necessary. My other reason for preferring the Lyra despite being a small point down in the area of blending, is because of price. I think they are very reasonably priced and on par with their quality. I believe the caran d'ache are overpriced and see no reason to purchase them over the Lyra.

Had to round up from 3.5 stars.
Had to round up from 3.5 stars. Were it not for several of the 24 set I purchased for about $20 not passing my light test (90 days in a west window) I would rate these 5 stars. They handle nicely, and blend and wash well. They're heavily pigmented and this set includes a nice color range. Sadly, many of the colors lost some brilliance (lightened), and a couple even changed hue.Lightened somewhat:Orange (013), Saturn red (015), Pale geranium lake (021), Cerulean (048), Prussian blue (051), Mineral green (068), Yellow Still de grain (070), Venetian red (090), and even the Black (099).Lightened so badly I'd call them by a different name:Deep carmine (026) > now light pink, Deep magenta (034) > now lavender.Lightened badly and changed hue:Blue violet (037) > magically now cerulean?, Pompejan red (091) > now light brown. While the ones that just lightened a little (the first group) won't keep me from using them for works I hope to be reasonably light-fast and permanent, those four in the last two groups won't be used for anything other than "practice" works.I've included a photo showing this set applied dry, and with water added (top is was kept in a drawer, bottom in the window).

Nice and creamy and easy to use
These crayons are nice and creamy. The colors blended nicely and gave a nice soft look to my painting. They were also a good size. I do have one concern but I don't believe that it will affect the crayons. That being said at least 3 crayons were cracked. Like they were overly dry and the papers on the crayons were stuck to each other. None of this affected how they worked. I even had a broken one because when I opened the tin all the crayons were all over the inside box and not in their little slots.I have not used the cracked ones yet but if there is a problem I will up date this review.

Old product or bad formulas
Not sure if what I received I'd old product or if Lyra just has bad formulas for certain colors. The packaging doesn't hold them in place so they were jumbled and dirty when I opened it.Two crayons had big cracks running down the sides. Two more crayons were so dry and brittle that pieces flaked off. Then one crayon was oddly like wet clay. It was too damp and bending. Not the quality that I was expecting for the price. I'll stick with Caran d'ache neocolors and Staedtler.

What fun to work with, colors match and compliment my much loved "Lyra" colored pencils
Such a treat to work with, Watercolors are my favorite this is a new experience for me working with crayons and water brushes I was hesitant at first they sat in my Studio for a week before I could find a project I felt comfortable to start with, as I look back I feel silly I waited so long. Easy to work with , convenient and fun, really are a wonderful go to new asset to my supplies, I am delighted

Creamy soft.
Bought these on a wimb when my normal go to brand was out of stock I needed a set ASAP for upcoming art class. So glad i did the quality of these are excellent they lay down smoothly. Very soft and you can use them as they are dry on dry or add water to.I like these alot and will use them more often the colours are nice. Only down side had was on arrival the crayons seemed to take a beating and they moved out the holding tray. No big deal no damage to package or crayons just moved around in transit.

Excellent
Excellent product that paints much more watercolor-like than Caran d' Ache Neocolor II. Indeed the latter applies more like Gouache than watercolor. Very good price too!
