Harlow
I would have given five stars to this movie except there were no extras on offer! The 4K transfer to Bluray is superb. The widescreen technicolor production is a feast for the eyes. The movie captures the atmosphere of Hollywood in its heyday. Carroll Baker's performance and that of Angela Lansbury is great. Highly recommended.

good movie of Harlow
The best version of Harlow I have seen but Jean's brows are still not right. It was so important to her look. Still this is a good film, while fudging the truth a little at the end, I won't spoil it for you.

slightly tarnished platinum
Gloriously ott in the sorta style that would culminate in Dynasty in later years. Many of the facts of this doomed star are glossed over and some "facts" are just not true and everything seems to be turned into a melodrama and less of a bio pic.If you can accept this for what it is then is quite good and Carroll Baker is stunning in it.Angela Lansbury plays her mother in this and is good too even if the scenario isnt true to life.An oddity about this film is the song "Girl Talk" used in the sountrack which somehow dosnt seem quite right.

This film lacks a great deal on Jean Harlow's life
This film lacks a great deal on Jean Harlow's life. for a start I believe you could of got a more better actress to play "Harlow" then Carroll Baker who sports around a Doris Day hair style. the music or scenery lets this film down. as for Angela Lansbury being Jean's Mother it looks more like her boring soap opera "Murder She Wrote" Theres no good acting a very poor performance from all and some cannot even act to save themselves. if you want to see the real Jean Harlow then buy some of her films and witness for yourself what you think about her movies? yes, she made bad movies when she first started out on her film career. yes, she was a critic's delight over her performance in her films. but she eventually found her own way to be a big movie star in certain films she was made for. and she was a success. she also made films with some of Hollywoods most famous actors James Cagney Clark Gable are just two but there were many more. I have a book "The Complete Films Of Jean Harlow. I use this book as a guide to find the films I want of Jean Harlow. on looking at Carroll Baker's film of Jean Harlow it NEVER be a Substitute for the very true Jean Harlow and the true films of Jean Harlow. this films just passes the time I have it to remember about Jean Harlow it is not my favourite.

Four Stars
Well acted by the beautiful Anne Margret.

Frustrating fictionalised version of her life
Some decent acting by Carroll Baker in the central role, is ruined by the decision of the screenwriters to totally fabricate most of the film histology of Jean. Real movie titles are changed, MGM is not mentioned, and her relationships with Hollywood stars such as William Powell and Gable are not explored. Furthermore, her serious bouts of illness through Scarlet Fever, and her ultimate fate, are left out completely. The only explanation for all this, may lie in the threat of litigation, which was due to some of the participants still being alive at the time the film was made. Fascinating to watch, but look elsewhere for the real story of Hollywood star Jean Harlow!

Three Stars
Interesting, but bore no similarity to the life story of the real Harlow

Wildly inaccurate, no sense of the thirties - a fantasy
This is more Marilyn Monroe in terms of the way Harlow looks than Jean Harlow.Barely any of it is true to the real story. And the period feel is non-existent. You're in the sixties, not the early thirties except for very brief nods.Sadly, pretty awful. Jean Harlow deserves much, much better
