No more frozen pipes
I have used these for years and they are excellent. I have wrapped pretty much all of my waterlines with them. Plug it in and forget it in the winter. It’s great piece of mind and pretty inexpensive insurance compared to water leaks and busted pipes.

Worried about frozen pipes this past winter
Over the past two winters i have frozen kitchen pipes. This purchase saved the day. Had a few days that were cold enough to freeze the pipes again and all i had to do was plug this in the day before and water ran freely till the cold snap passed. Was extremely grateful for running water the entire winter. Will purchase another one for a bathroom as well.

tested fine so now we see
I have a summer cabin in the norther US, we winterize the plumping but the well pipe and check valve are outside and can not be drained so we put this on to keep the pipes from bursting. We tested the tape with an ice pack and it turned on so we are confident all will be well!

Heating Cable
Used this to prevent backflow preventer from freeze damage during hard freezes. It worked great and was easy to install. Applied foam insulation over it.

Works as designed for my use
I bought two of these in different lengths to hopefully keep outside lengths of potable water hose from freezing. One hose runs from an outside hose bib on my house into a valve which feeds an underground PEX run. The other hose connects the PEX where it comes out of the ground into a travel trailer city water inlet. The travel trailer sees winter use so I wanted to keep the water flowing. I live in Fayetteville NC so bitter bouts of cold are not typical here but there are times when the outside temperature will not get above freezing for a few days.I attached this product to my hoses using a specialized heating cable application tape (Easy Heat HCA 30-Foot by 1/2-Inch Cold Weather Valve and Pipe Heating Cable Application Tape) which I bought here on Amazon. I then wrapped the hoses and heating cable with self sealing outdoor rated foam rubber insulation (like foam noodles that people use in pools but these are rated for outdoor pipe insulation). The plug ends of these cables have what I'm guessing is a small neon bulb that lights to indicate that the system has power applied. This is a useful benefit to visually verify that power is applied to the system. I find this feature very valuable, although I didn't think much of it when I was purchasing these items. The past couple of weeks have been exceptionally cold (for my location). Low temperatures at night have been below 20F and there have been a few days where the high temperature has not approached freezing. I have to say that these things work. The travel trailer had continuous flowing water through the hoses that are heated with this product. The travel trailer has a propane furnace that keeps the baseline temperature comfortable so the interior PEX plumbing is not an issue. For the outdoor supply lines though, these are working well.I have seen questions as to whether these products can be used with flexible hoses such as garden hoses instead of only being useful for copper, PVC, CPVC, etc. So far, the products have presented no problem with the application on the water hoses. As other reviews and questions mention, my hoses are always water filled.

My go-to for heat tape.
I own a campground and do quite a few repairs and this is always the one we replace it with. These cords are not known to really last much more than two or four seasons maybe you can get more out of it but from what I hear that's kind of the norm. Works good consistent Heat would buy again.

Worked in Alberta at --35C Didn't think needed in BC ... surprise!
2 cables worked perfectly Our outside taps on the house have NO inside shut off (yup... they just let them drip all winter to prevent freezing) AND the water lines are set in the cement walls of the foundation so there is no access until the pipe appears outside the cement wall. . So, we would get a 3 foot high "icicle" (8 inches diameter on the cement) building on the driveway in front of the yard gate!! Pound it out and in a month ...of course another one!Same for the backyard outside tap!The fix: put a 3 foot length of sealed end garden hose on each ... 'taped' heat tape onto the short hose. Put all of it in 3 feet of 2inch black pipe. Plugged in and problem solved. Looks clean, no issue with electric bill given houses here are all electric heat (!!) Come spring, unscrew the short hoses and get back to cutting grass... Thanks!

Keeps the hose defrosted
Making sure the thermostat is not turning off due to the cable making it think it’s warm is a lesson we had to learn, we ended up leaving the thermostat out in the air to make sure it stayed on and the hose didn’t freeze. So far we have had a few below freezing days, we turn the hose on and it works. The first little bit of water that comes out is even warm, which helps if we have frozen water buckets. We have only had it for a month or two but so far works great and for the price cheaper than buying an insulated hose by far!
