WAY better than Polyurethane and No Fumes
I’m a novice woodworker at best, working out of an attached garage that doubles as my shop. Anytime I used stain or oil-based polyurethane, my family would immediately start complaining—the fumes always found their way into the house. This time, I decided to try Rubio Monocoat for the first time on a 9-foot desk I built for my office. I applied two coats, and let me tell you—virtually no smell. Maybe a light scent in the immediate area, but it was more like carnauba wax than chemicals. Most importantly, no complaints from the family.Application was super simple. I just used my DeWalt orbital sander to buff it into the surface, and it turned out great. I love how you can still feel the wood grain—that’s something you just don’t get with polyurethane, which basically covers your project in plastic. The look was amazing too. I went with "Pure," and it did not disappoint. The finish came out pretty natural but with a slightly wet look. See for yourself. The only real downside? The wait. You’ve got to let it cure for about a week before using the piece, and that was easily the hardest part.If I have any issues with this finish I'll come back to report but so far it's been a few weeks and I LOVE it.

Best value , Great product
The Rubio Monaco oil and stain finish is the easiest product I have ever used. What's great about it? One simple step its done. The finish is safe, stain resistant, and water proof. Worked great on a bathroom rift white oak hardwood vanity.

Great stuff for DIY projects
Resurfaced this knife block (photo) that used to be just natural color with the Charcoal shade Rubio. It has a nice modern tone and is perfectly matte, as if covered with a matte varnish (it is not). The block is made of a very hard wood and yet it penetrated quite well, despite the 220- grit finish. Perhaps it could have been even better with a 150 but I wanted a very smooth final surface. It comes in two bottles, one is the colored oil mix and the other is a transparent accelerator. You actually can use the same accelerator with different colors.Just mix them 3:1 and you’re ready to go. It takes time to harden, the manual says mix as much as you can use in 15 minutes. It can be applied with anything: a pad, a brush, a soft cloth etc. After leaving it on for a few minutes, wipe it off and buff it until the shiny part is gone and it is done.My advice is wear rubber gloves as this stuff penetrates every pore on your skin and doesn’t wash off easily. It has a very low odor and is not toxic for food usage after it cures. It stops being sticky after a few hours but the full cure takes about seven days. Repeated layers don’t change much in my experience, it is basically just one application. If any Cons I’d say it is quite expensive for this small bottle, I’d buy more colors if it wasn’t this expensive. Also as it is one application only and no poly on top (probably can do an oil-based one if needed) it requires a perfectly prepared surface with no stains or other problems.I recommend this product.

Wood finishing
I’ve just got into wood working but tried to refinish a dresser years ago. I’ve heard about this stuff and thought to give it a try. It was really easy and low odor. Now I’ve just about done all the furnitureIn my house. Love it.

Great product
Used this on our butcher block counter top and it turned out beautiful. A little bit goes a long way. It was easy to apply and dried very nicely. Holding up well and definitely worth the money.

excellent
I've done finish carpentry and furniture building for years, so I have used just about every wood finish there is, except the Rubio Monocoat (until now). This was recommended to me to use on a butcher block island countertop in the kitchen of our new house. The butcher block is cherry wood and was much too red/orange than we wanted and clashed with the dark wood floors in the kitchen. I stripped and sanded the old varathane finish off the butcher block and tried a couple of different Rubio Monocoat colors until I got the dark walnut color we wanted. On a cherry butcher block, the Black Rubio Monocoat was perfect and produced a walnut looking finish. Different woods and Monocoat colors will produce different results, obviously. The exposed grain and water proof seal is just what we wanted. It was easy to apply (a little goes a very long way...) and it's all about the initial sanding and prep and then making sure you wipe all the Monocoat off after it's applied. You wipe and wipe and wipe until the surface seems absolutely dry. Then you wipe some more. Any remaining excess will get sticky. So wipe it dry. Did I mention to wipe it dry?
