One Star
Badly translated from Dutch to English. Old fashioned ideas, though I guess it worked for him at the time.

Interesante lectura
Interesante lectura. No es un manual. Son las experiencias del autor. Te sirve para entender lo básico de la raza más algunos tips. Prescindible. Yo compraría otro.

More of a breed history than anything else.
This is more of a breed history than a book containing training techniques, feed and care advice, or any practical information specific to owning a Malinois. The author is a former Dutch police K9 handler, who assuredly has a wealth of knowledge and experience with the breed, but little practical advice for the novice owner. The book is geared towards people that have never heard of the breed and are curious about its history and use throughout the years. There is nothing in the book you couldn't search up on your smartphone or YouTube. If you own a Mal, or are considering getting one, do not rely on this book for useful tips, information, or advice. Do your homework and consult a reputable breeder, K9 trainer, Malinois clubs, and/or other owners before deciding to get either a puppy or an adult. They don't call them Maligator's for nothing. They are high energy, extremely intelligent, and "drivey". Trust me, if you don't know what I mean by 'drivey', you're not prepared to own a Malinois. We have a 15-week female Malinois and a LARGE 15-month German Shepherd (I have owned 3 GSD's previously). Our Mal is a sweetheart, but she is already a handful. As much as Malinois' need to burn physical energy, it is more important that they be kept mentally stimulated. Training is essential to raising a happy, stable, safe Malinois that you will enjoy having around. This book is not going to help you achieve that. It is what it is.

I bought this in spite of the other poor reviews. Dumb
I bought this in spite of the other poor reviews. Dumb. Kaldenback does no justice to his description of the Malinois. In fact, I went through with buying a Malinois puppy with this book as some background, and it was a disaster. Kaldenback does not begin to describe the drive and focus of a Malinois if the one I had to give back is an example. He indicates that a Malinois should have a strong and knowledgeable owner but did not make that imperative. A Malinois MUST have a strong and knowledgeable owner and any book on the breed has to make this clear. This book did not touch that.
