World War Two: A Short History
R**S
A condensed assessment
This isn't a bad read and should be of great value to those seeking a less detailed story of the events. It doesn't contain a great deal of information that hasn't already been covered, but perhaps provides a better perspective of the war from a British point of view than many previous books. The main strength of the work is that it provides a thorough overview of most aspects of the war in a concise and readable manner. It may spur some readers into subsequently seeking more detail.

World War II in 199 Pages
An excellent starting point from which to get an overall picture of the campaign, but don't expect too many details; the Malayan campaign and fall of Singapore, for instance, are dealt with in less than one page. Always very readable, but a few more maps would have helped.

Good reference work but a tedious read
Norman Stone has an excellent grasp of history and its chronology, but his writing style is confusing and at time ungrammatical. Some of his sentences have to be read several times to grasp what it is he is trying to say. Some make no sense at all. Full of typos as well.A handy book to own for reference, but definitely not a gripping read.

Good short history.
A very good short history giving all the essential details without confusing you with too much information.I enjoyed it without having to read a lot of information about every battle and numbers of casualties etc.

Dissapointing
The good point is Stones ability to condense complex millitary history and statistics in an interesting and pithy way. As a precis for students it's useful. If you're a revisionist and you think that 'Churchill,Hitler and the Unnescessary War ' by Pat Buchannan has ome validity then you will find this book frustrating and containing inaccuracies and omissions.

A good quick read to get the breadth of WWII
\Well written by a truly knowledageable historian. Well worth the read and may lead many to want to read a more exhaustive history such as "All Hell Let Loose".
