BODY ELECTRIC

Surprisingly relaxing
The kind of loose, intimate film you don't watch for the plot but just to hang out with some endearing characters and explore their environments. The social commentary is a bonus.

Body electric
An interesting slice of Brazilian life, but it has no real story, & some sequences seem irrelevant. It is not clear whether the focus is on Elias, or the people he works with.

Highly recommended, warm real performances
Highly recommended, warm real performances from characters that feel real from the performances delivered here.

pleasant but lacks proper connection with the viewer
Likeable though Elias is, and indeed everyone else in the film, I can't say I found Body Electric all that exciting. There is a complete lack of a story, really - instead, we see 23-year-old Elias at work in a clothes factory in Sao Paolo, then socialising with his colleagues, and meeting a number of drag queens through a new young friend, and these characters float in and out of scenes, usually in groups, or otherwise in bed. The dialogues are all inconsequential, and nothing interesting is said. They are an amiable group, but somehow you need more than this to make a film - it seems to give a feeling that one is on the outside; it is never punctuated by any moments of insight or intensity. There is no way of becoming more involved at any level with these characters, with the script such as it is. However most reviewers here seem to disagree ...
