It can be cultivated as a tree and is a real eye-catcher when grown solitarily, for it will also produce beautiful fruits within our latitudes. The flowers are of whitish-yellow colour and rather inconspicuous. The pea-sized fruits turn purple and smell of pepper, just like the leaves. Often enough, the fruits are dried and used for stretching real pepper, mostly also for opitcal reasons. Pruning at will will help to cultivate the Schinus molle into the desired height. Origin: A native of Peru and Chile. The Peruvian pepper tree is a popular ornamental and shade plant in Mediterranean countries. Propagation: The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. They germinate within 2-4 weeks and can be spread out directly on moist cultivation soil. Cover with a 1 cm thick layer of soil and keep evenly moist at 15°-20°C until germination.Place / Light: Bright and sunny places are ideal for a strong and healthy growths. Care: Regular standard soil is suitable for the Peruvian pepper tree. The plant is quite dry resistant and should be watered very little, even in summer. Supply the pepper tree with tub plant fertilizer every 14 days from the beginning of May until October. There are no pests know. Winter period: A bright and airy room with temperatures between 5°-10°C should be chosen for the winter period. Hight temperatures will lead to the development of weak shoots.
