NEEWER Z2-C – A Very Nice Flash with one minor annoyance
This flash packs a lot of features in it for a nice price. This is my first round head flash. I have several traditional rectangular head flash units that I have been using for quite a few years. I wanted to see if the round head would make much difference. I am impressed with this flash. It's got a nice LCD display and it's pretty intuitive if you're used to using speedlites. I was easily able to adjust the Flash Exposure Compensation when using E-TTL on my Canon cameras and I got good exposures with it.The flash comes with a padded case, the dome diffuser, the stand and, of course, the lithium ion battery and charger. The charger is pretty small and minimal but it works well. Overall, it's a a very nice flash. As for the round head, I haven't seen any noticeable difference in using the round head flash vs. my traditional speedlites. Maybe, I'll notice something after I've used it more. The dome diffuser didn't really change the quality of the light. The one annoyance is that there is a sticky lubricant that has leaked out of the seams for the rotating head. See the photo the third photo (the one with the busy background). I had read a review on a different listing for this flash that pointed out the issue. That person said Neewer was aware of it and had replaced his flash with one that didn't leak. I checked mine when it came in and there was the leaking sticky lubricant. I contacted Neewer to see if there was a way to clean it up. They recommended using alcohol to clean it and said it might need to be done a few times until it stops leaking out. I tried both rubbing alcohol and denatured alcohol which got some of the sticky residue off but not completely. I, then, tried Goo Gone with it and most of it cleaned off. (See the 4th photos with the white background.) I expect that I'll have to clean it a few times after using it more but it will eventually stop. This may not bother some people but I'm pretty OCD about the condition of my equipment so I'll be cleaning it regularly until it stops leaking. If you aren't bothered by having to clean the lubricant off (if you get one that leaks), then this is very good deal for a flash of this caliber.

Incremental refinements over the Z1-C
I'm a big fan of NEEWER products and have so many pieces of their equipment that I've lost count. They make a wide range of functional and high quality gear and sell it at a value price point. Lately, it seems like they're making an effort to break out of the 'good for the price' niche and move up in the market. Last year, they released the Z1-C which essentially added everything that people said was lacking in the entry level TT560 flash. The results were impressive. This is the Z2-C and clearly NEEWER saw no need to completely rework what was already a winning product. Instead, they went for some incremental refinements. From a performance standpoint, there's little difference between the Z1-C and Z2-C. The major differences are in the operator interface. The Z2-C adds a vastly improved UI display that *was* rebuilt from the ground up. It's easier to read with clear and sharp white on black text. It's also easier to work with. User experience is not an insignificant component of the overall product mix and the new UI is worth the upgrade alone IMO. There's also a quick TTL to manual flash mode switch via the TCM side key. The LED modeling lamps have also been upgraded and at least according to the product descriptions I've read the flash received some 'under the hood' refinements. Maybe they did, but I couldn't figure out what they were from my testing. The big question--if you already own the Z1-C is it worth the upgrade? That depends on how much you value a nice UI. If you do, an upgrade is essential. If you're already happy with the Z1-C and conversant with the existing UI maybe not. What about if you *don't* own a Z1-C? The newer flash is definitely a sleeker product and only nominally more expensive. Given the minimal disparity in cost, it's hard to justify buying the Z1-C over the Z2-C. If you're a newcomer to flash photography you'll find the experience of using the Z2-C much more intuitive and enjoyable. At any rate, a great flash at the price point--just like its predecessor. Highly recommended!

Impressed
This flash packs a lot of features into it for the price point! The display is large and easy to read, and the controls are intuitive. It has TTL and HSS, comes with a magnetic attachable dome diffuser, and build quality feels pretty good also. It has 2 different modeling light options: either from the front facing small led or from the flash head itself. There's also a cool feature it has with a TTL/Manual mode switch, so you can quickly change if needed. Though I'm not sure just yet how useful that will prove in the field.I do sometimes wish these lights used regular batteries instead of proprietary lithium ones, but it seems those are the standard these days. Makes sense, since they pack a lot more power but I do miss having the ability to just throw some AA batteries into my case as backups, instead of having to buy special batteries.

Works Great
Whether using on camera, off by itself and triggered via remote, or as a secondary light with the Q4 on and off camera, this works very well. The round head attachments I have from a competitor brand also fit on it with no issues. The build is solid and the UI is intuitive. Neewer has truly built another great flash.
