I bought the Instant S for my son, who is DT1. He takes readings at least 4 times a day. Judging by the information I gathered, the Accu check Instant seemed to be an excellent glucose monitor.Now that we’ve been using it for a couple of months, I have some observations:PROS:1.The results show up instantly.2.The colored dots on the side make it easy for my son to judge the range of his glucose levels.3. It’s small and compact.CONS1. The worst issue by far is the battery drain. The Instant and Instant S will suck the batteries dry in about one week.From experience with other brands and models, the batteries usually last several months, if not a whole year.The Bluetooth function in the Instant model that we also own drained the batteries in 4 days.2. You cannot scroll through past glucose readings. You can only see the previous reading and you weekly/monthly average.3. It does not display the time of the reading. I normally check the times of day when my son took his glucose readings. With the Instant I now have no idea if he checked at the right times during the day.In conclusion: I am getting rid of both my Instant and Instant S, and purchasing another model that is more convenient for us.The cost of batteries alone is worth the change. But the lack of other important and useful information that should be displayed along with the blood glucose levels, such as time of reading and past readings, are also a good reason to switch.I do not recommend either Instant models, especially for D1 people who need to take blood glucose readings several times a day.
