The Gardens of California: Four Centuries of Design from Mission to Modern

I bought this book used from one of the Goodwill sellers in California. I bought it as a gift for someone not for myself and, I didn't read it but I did flip through it just to see what it was like. It has a lot of beautiful color photographs, many of them full page or almost full page photos, of gardens and landscapes from wealthy estates around California. The book is 9" wide and 11 1/2" tall so the full page photos are pretty decent size and show quite a bit of detail. Some of the gardens are very crafted and manicured, while others are wild and natural looking by design. There is a fair amount of information in the book but as I said I didn't read it so I don't know what kind of information it has about any of the estates, gardens or photos in the book. I think if you like to collect books like this then you should buy it new, if your interest is more casual and you might not keep it for a long time then you should buy it used.

If you are a California native plant person, than you should have this book in your collection. Great information and pictures of what people do with native plants.

Great pictures, has given me some great ideas about the garden to go with my Californian Spanish style home here is Australia As there isn't to many of this style home in Australia so the book was very informative in creating a style that goes with this house, a good reference book
