Good tactical setup, and a true 5000 lumens
So many lights claim to be tactical but will leave you fumbling with controls. Not this one. The rear button ALWAYS activates the light at full turbo (5000 lumens) and it will hold that level for at least 30 seconds before heat protection kicks in. See 1lumens review for full details. You can also turn on the light by clicking the side button. Once on, hold the side button down and it cycles through Low, Medium 1, Medium 2, and High, and memorizes the last mode used. There is also an ultra low that can be accessed from off mode by holding the side button. It is very convenient that you can always get directly to the highest and lowest modes from off.The beam is great for me, with a bright center that falls off gradually into a dimmer but still useful spill. I find this more useful than a full flood or full spot, it puts the brightest light at the center of your visual field but still provides enough light at the periphery to allow awareness of the surroundings. There is no charging port on the exterior of the light... Instead, the port is on the battery itself. This is slightly less convenient, but ultimately means there is no port cover externally to snag or let in water, so I'm good with it.As for the construction quality, the fit and finish are impeccable. The anodized green is flawless and looks great. There are no sharp edges. The barrel is nonetheless grippy from the pattern cut into it. The light comes with a pocket clip that is good quality but probably of limited usefulness due to the width of the reflector. It has an anodized aluminum ring that allows for a cigar grip. This can be removed easily by removing the tail and carefully removing the outermost o ring. The aluminum ring will slide right off, and then put the o ring back.I added some images to contrast with another popular flashlight, whose brand I dont mention. This is provided as a reference only... they are not similar in price range, class, or intended use. They are both great lights in their class.I think the only trade-off of the Acebeam L35 2.0 is that the size of the reflector makes it less pocketable, and thus less likely to be usable for EDC. Im tempted to try anyway. This is a solid and very bright tactical light.
