Great tools for breaking concrete
Bought these to split a large concrete set of steps I had.You do need a 14mm SDS Hammer Drill, not a puny domestic hammer drill. Cleal out the hole with a hoover or similar, then slide out the central wedge and insert the feathers fully into the hole, making sure you line up the wedge with the line of where you want to crack the slab. You need about one evert 3-4 inches I reckon so I ordered 4 (2 packs). They are not as big as the pictures make them look(!)Then tap each one in turn like tightening wheel nuts and gradually apply a harder bang with your lump hammer. After a few sets of blows you can hear it start to very quietly creak then a crack appears and the wedges start to move more easily.Nothing broke or bent and although the drill bit started to wear out a bit after a dozen breaks, the wedges work well. You do need to insert them all the way and also allow about 4-6 inches of concrete between them and the edge otherwise the concrete might break at 45 degrees instead of 90.But if you have a bit of a practice you can get very nice clean breaks in concrete several inches thick.

Very effective. Possibly the coolest thing I've done
Bought these to split some old foundations. Very hard concrete (pneumatic breaker was doing nothing). A could of quick 14mm holes with the drill and these split it without breaking a sweat. Very fast, much quicker than any other method and made it easy to protect the rest of the building. Recommend

incredibly effective
used these to break up a fallen wall into movable pieces to take to the tip - solid heavy breeze block with thick render.previously took 4 hours to cut the wall down with a sawzall. 10 minutes of drilling and tapping and bam- cut in half again. so much better. will be able to break the rest of the wall down in only half hour or so - saving me a lot of time and money.can't believe how well they work. highly recommend.parcel arrived in a couple of days as well . items appear good quality and well made (altough the box they arrive in is a bit flimsy - but that's a very minor detail. first class product

Robust and they work.
Have used these for breaking up both concrete and limestone very successfully. Mine have now had a lot of use demolishing a concrete slab and are showing few signs of wear, the little rubber collars to keep the feathers on each plug are a big help. A far superior product to the plastic ones available. The plastic box they come in isn't up to much and I don't expect it to last long. (FWIW these work well in combination with a 14 mm drill bit.)

Very effective and quick to use.
Bought these wedge and feathers to break up a large sandstone water feature (a good half a ton) that had resisted breaking up with an SDS Makita hammer drill with masonry chisel bit. Received promptly and set aside a Saturday to break up rock into manageable pieces. Started with drilling a few holes to break off a small section (about 1/2 square foot) as a test and was impressed at how quickly it split the rock. Managed to break up entire feature (2 rocks) into 20+ manageable garden rocks in less than an hour. Very impressed (looking forward to finding another job to use them on!)
