Glenn Ford plays a decent soldier who lets revenge turn him into a bitter hunter of the Confederate prisoners of war who escape from the stockade kidnapping Ford's intended bride (Inger Stevens) in the process.A realistic and tough vision of the United States post civil war.

This film does not even deserve one star. Terrible directorship, poor cinematography, a good idea destroyed by a stupid script, terrible acting. It should have been a fantastic western, but was made at a time when they had forgotten what a good western was. Buy Escape from Fort Bravo. A similar story, but a better film. This director learnt his trade durecting Laurel and Hardy. The best bit was the final 10 minutes. Until then the firearms used were almost civil war era, but not quite. The props department supplied them with Winchester rifles for the final scene, and just in time.
