Perfect Gift for Fans of Japanese History or Anime
Japan is well known for its traditional craftsmanship, and I recently got my hands on a letter opener from Seki City in Gifu Prefecture—a place famous for its swordsmithing, particularly knives and scissors. This particular letter opener is styled like a miniature katana, modeled after the sword of Hijikata Toshizō, the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi from the late Edo period. The blade is made of stainless steel and was sharpened by skilled artisans, so it actually slices through envelopes very smoothly. It’s not just a novelty—it really works well as a letter opener. What I also love is that it comes with a stand, so you can display it like a little sword on your desk. There's also a scabbard to cover the blade when you're not using it, which adds a nice touch and makes it feel even more authentic. It’s a beautiful blend of function and aesthetics—definitely a conversation piece. I think this would make a great gift for anyone who appreciates Japanese culture, or even fans of anime or samurai history. It’s unique, well-crafted, and genuinely useful.

Great piece for a desk
This miniature katana letter opener looks great and works well for light use. The blade is sharp enough to open regular envelopes without much effort, but it’s clearly meant more for display than heavy-duty tasks. The handle wrapping and scabbard design are nicely done for the price, and the included stand makes it easy to show off. However, the letter opener doesn’t stay very secure on the stand and can fall off if bumped. It still makes a nice desk piece overall, just something to be aware of if you plan to keep it where it might get knocked around.

Authentic, looks nice, good quality and good for purposes of opening letters!
Right when I opened it I immediately knew I love it. Not only is it a novelty item but it is made well for its purpose. The blade is made of stainless steal and sharp enough to open letters well with minimal effort. The blade has a cover which fits nicely, is hand painted with Japanese symbols which look really nice. It does not take up much space at all. I also love the stand that you can display the letter opener with or without the sword cover on. It looks really authentic. Not only is a cool gift for yourself but definitely for other people as well. Definitely going on my desk and staying there forever

Very cool looking letter opener
This would make for a nice gift for someone who loves the Japanese culture. I love that this is actually made in Japan. I was expecting it to be a bit sharper even for letter opening. I may end up trying to sharpen the blade a bit myself as it's a little too short to get good leverage to open envelopes with this dull of a blade. All of my existing letter openers are almost twice the length. I like the detail on the blade itself. I wanted to display this in an authentic way and read that the blade should be facing up along with the sheath and the cord facing outwards. Also should be pointing to the left in times of peace. If facing to the right, it's a time of war or potential war. Overall, this is a cool enough gift to be on my radar for some people in my life.
