"Patterns in Red" is a digital photograph that is slightly manipulated using software to highlight certain characteristics of the image. This old set of sliding wagon barn doors are unusual in that they both have a different pattern. Many are made with vertical boards, but the peaked pattern of the door on the right is very unusual. The boards on the right are also beaded. I'm thinking that the farmer made this pattern to use boards that were too short to be used vertically - and how lucky we are for it! The paint is bright barn red, and bright spring green lichen is growing on different sections of the door, as well as on the light gray concrete foundation to the right. The edges of the angled door a worn and faded to pale wood at the bottom. The handle of an old metal gate thumb latch set is serving as the pull for the door. The handle is install upside down. The large tab at the bottom is where the thumb latch would normally stick through. The handle is painted red. The wagon doors are hung and slide along the metal rail above the doors, which is painted red. You can see the star cut-out barn door rollers on the door to the right, which are also painted red. They are fastened with three screws. A dead vine still clings to the door on the left, while the edge of some vines are visible on the door to the far right. The barn siding is the same as the door to the left, narrow and vertical. The concrete foundation has black spots and washes of dusty rose along with the lichen.
