Yumi and the Nightmare Painter: A Cosmere Novel

Lovely, unexpected
Went into the book expecting a simple romance, but Brandon doesn't just write a romance... It has a marvellous story behind it. And the things that happened were very completely utterly unexpected to me! Great return of loved characters, references of other cosmere works, all that makes this a great cosmere novella. Really great book, I loved it so much.

it’s the Wit for me
Get it?No, but seriously. What a ride! Certainly a different style and storyline from Mr. Sanderson’s previous works, but nonetheless spoken with his authentic and much loved voice. For those dedicated to reading all Cosmere works, a MUST READ. And for those simply looking for a good book… do yourselves the favour of indulging your mind in a wondrous journey filled with love and malice.

My favourite of the Secret Projects thus far
I have yet to read 'The Sunlit Man' and have it lined up next, but this is definitely my favourite of Sanderson's four 'Secret Projects' at this time. What I found interesting was his inspiration being partially drawn from Final Fantasy X, whereas I felt subtle influences of FFXV throughout the work. There are also elements of manga/anime productions for any fans of contemporary Japanese media. Also, there are hints at a very famous movie with a certain actor known for his Cyberpunk-style roles... perhaps the line should have been: 'We meet again, Mr. Sanderson.'It's a poignant story which leads the reader on a rollercoaster of emotions, and unlike in 'Tress of the Emerald Sea' I found Hoid's narration to be more subdued and genuinely chuckle-inducing. If you're a fan of the Cosmere in general I highly recommend this work, just go in with expectations that it's somewhere between the light-heartedness of Tress and the serious tone of Stormlight.

Excellent book!
It was quite slow to begin while the world was set up and the characters introduced. At first I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it, but how wrong I was! This was a masterpiece. I loved the characters, especially Yumi and the writing was so good and believable. I also loved the illustrations, they were beautiful.

Didn’t like it, until I started to love it
The third of the secret projects I’ve now read, after (foolishly) deciding I was interested in them. It’s brilliant - different style and pace to my normal books; up to about half way I wasn’t feeling it. Good, but not great. But then something changed and I fell in love with the story. One of a handful of books that has brought tears to my eyes at an ending. For those in the fence like I was - have faith in Brandon; that man can make anything sensational.

Excellent novel
One of the best stories I’ve read in year’s, if you like sci-fi fantasy that keeps you guessing, you’ll love this, a great story well written. Thank you Brandon Sanderson.

Loved it
Jolly good stuff, secret project 2 was a bit of dud, but secret project 3 is almost as good as secret project 1.

a great and fund book
great concept, fun plot, a little heavy on cosmere knowledge on points which makes it harder to recommend to first time Sanderson readers, which is a shame because its such a lovely book

Most intriguing, confusing, and beautiful Sanderson story
I feel like I am a decent student of the Cosmere. But this story left me baffled at times as I clearly missed subtle references. The book is just so original, and odd, and beautiful, and completely worth reading. Plus, am quite convinced there are some great Cosmere nuggets here I am missing. Enjoy!

very imaginative lovely illustrations
You may say whatever you want about Brandon Sanderson, the guy has an impressive imagination, this is a very usual love history about a very usual couple of young people (kind of..), living in a very unusual place with very unusual careers and very unusual problems. Made me laugh, made me cry, it was not very predictable, I enjoyed every minute.

Excellent!!!!
Though it’s a bit expensive for a paperback; it’s totally worth it! The book was in perfect condition brand new even though there wasn’t any bubble wrap…. Also another thing i loved about this copy is that the book size is big compared to other paperbacks i bought so far.. so the sentences had good gaps in between the lines and words, font size was just right unlike most of the other paperbacks where the words are clustered and no gap in between lines, which are very annoying and such a turn off! Impressive! I was eyeing this book for ages and finally bought it! As for the content inside, it’s a brandon sanderson book…so I completely trust in the quality of the plot line.I just read a chapter and I’m already loving it! The night world is soo 🤌✨ Im so happy! Thank you amazon!🤩
