Mediterranean Gourmet Saffron Thread, 1 Gram

It did not come to me! I will smell it and make ice cream and yeast bread with it when/if it arrives. georgia

Two weeks ago, I lived in Australia and was paying $6.60 (US) for a half gram of saffron. A full gram for $7.50 that worked very well in my favourite recipe today deserves 5 stars. Colouring and aroma is nice. Unfortunately, I don't have a price of reference with my local grocery store, as it does not carry saffron.

Saffron is becoming more and more common at supermarkets these days and so on a price wise comparison this really isnt much of a savings getting it online anymore. This definitely is saffron, it passes the water test and has the right flavors. I ended up using it for bread and Indian food. Again the price isnt super competitive anymore.

The only complaint that I have about this item is that I used the recommended amount in a recipe for yellow rice, my rice didn't turn yellow as it was supposed to (according to the recipe/pics of the recipe). The flavor was distinct, but a little weak. I'm not sure if it's just the batch I received or what, but I wish I had used more in that recipe. Next time I will probably double the saffron I use, but the price is very cheap and I don't have many recipes that call for saffron so it's not a huge deal.

Opened this to make a nice rice pilaf for an event today, and was left in tears. This was full of a very unpleasent smell of mold, and worse yet, when set to steep in hot water, the stench got even worse. I tried steeping as a just in case kinda thing. Will never order again.

We just indulged in a delicious paella that was well seasoned with this little tin of saffron. 5 strands was all it took for a huge pan of paella. Thanks Amazon for providing saffron at such a good price.

but let me tell you, 1 gram dissappears really fast! Good strong smell/taste. Took a while to get it to grind down and there were still pieces, but it worked! (I used it to infuse the saffron with risotto.)

my paella was delicious. also, I liked that I was able to buy a small quantity that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
