Amazing book. Great insight into Beth Mead and making women’s football more open to everyone

As a self-proclaimed latecomer to the Beth Mead fan club, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and authenticity of her autobiographical account. Mead's exceptional football talent first caught my attention during England's victorious run in the Euro 2022 tournament, where she rightfully earned the title of Best Player. However, what sets Mead apart is her down-to-earth nature and willingness to share her personal struggles, including the self-doubt that has sometimes hindered her career. Unlike some of her male footballing counterparts, Mead's book lacks any hint of ego, making it an honest and refreshing read. She comes across as a genuine person and a born winner, which only makes her achievements all the more impressive. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in football or sports biographies. It's a compelling read that deserves five stars.

i have just finished reading this book (got it for xmas) and it was absolutely amazing! totally recommend and Beth is one of my favourite players in the wsl so that was a win too! thanks for the recommendation from my English teacher 😉

Positives: well researched & written book. The author has captured Beth's voice and personality.Loads of insights into Beth's journey as a footballer and a celebration of everything she's achieved so far.Will entertain women's football fans from the age of 12+.Proofreading/fact checking less good. Also Americanisms were jarring in a book about a Yorkshire hero :(

It’s a brave move to tell your own story in your own words, and to be so human and genuine in doing so. Especially when our ‘culture’ seems to enjoy nothing more than pulling people down when they’ve reached the top.The story was inspiring and enlightening, well written, and quite captivating. I got through the book quite quickly, and felt myself reliving the Euros and the emotions I felt watching the games.I don’t often read autobiographies, and have no time for the culture of celebrity, but this book is different. Reading Beth’s experiences it can be easy to forget how young she is, and it can make you sigh with disappointment to think that it wasn’t the 70s when she was faced with sexism, segregation, and bigotry. It’s happening now, all around us. You only have to look on social media to see the nonsense these young women have to put up with just because they want to play football. Even after their success at the Euros that had all of the right thinking country supporting them, they still have to fight to be heard, to be seen, and to be treated as equals.I’m looking forward to more books like this in the future. More people need to know the stories behind the success.Recommended reading.

This is a great inspirational story. I will admit I am not a football fan (male or female teams), but living and growing up in London, it is impossible to do or not take notice when England is playing. Especially at football. So is being a non football fan in London is hard being a female footballer is a billion times more difficult, which is what makes Beth and the other Lioness' story even more incredible.The book starts with a dark time in Beth's life, then goes back to her childhood, her family, and of course, her start in football till the current day. Thr highs and lows and her amazing 2022.Football is a team game, and through Beth is a standout player she gives full praise to her fellow teammates, coaches, managers, friends, and family. One thing that really strikes me and is very evident is the pay and resource difference between the male and female players. This is one of the reason Beth had for writing this book to shine a light on and hopefully inspire the next generation of women/Lioness.

Interesting to read how a girl struggled in professional and personal life to achieve her goal. Love to read her love story with Vivianne Miedema. It's like romantic movie plot.
