This is the best stand I've ever seen
This is the best stand I've ever seen. You can't imagine how quickly it can be set up and taken down. The pictures don't do it justice. It folds into a small triangle with the base and legs completely inside the desk for portability. There is a strap to carry it by on the bottom--completely invisible until you need it. When the stand is set up, the shelf is a great place to put your pencil, rosin, glasses, cough drops, any small accessories you use. It is very sturdy and so easy to adjust. You can easily clip a light to the top, and there is nothing in the center to block the clip like there is on Manhasset stands. "Magic" is an understatement. If you play gigs, if you have a lot to carry besides a stand, if you just want to have a high quality stand at home, this is the perfect stand. Buy this stand....you won't regret it. It is worth every penny.

A unique concept.
Meets all the requirements but it is sometimes difficult to remove the top music holder.

This is the one
I use a portable stand quite a lot. I have had two Petersen stands. On one the collar broke. Although I think they may have improved the construction on the more recent version. My newer Petersen still functions, but I just got tired of having the legs fall off when you move it (Particularly bad when your on stage) or being the last one out the door because I'm trying to get all the pieces back in the case good enough to close it. The Nilton on the other hand is so easy to put together and the quality of milling seems top notch. I worry about the plastic, but a friend of mine has had one for years and it's been great. As the Nilton is 3 times as much money as the Petersen you have to use it more than occasionally to justify the cost. But if you appreciate quality this is the one.

I had this for 20 years until it blew off the roof of my car and got run over!
I used to have the light that also fit into the package but couldn’t find that any more.. nice tight compact and has a shelf.. that the bass player in me really likes.. yes its beau coup bucks but i think I’m going to buy it again. Ps. I ran over it with my boat trailer in the drive way but it didn’t break. Just don’t loose it it’s a small package that i really also like.

Buying another for a family member after 15+ years
I have a Nilton Magic stand that has held up very well for more 15 years of weekly orchestra and chamber music use. Leaving this review since I'm purchasing a new stand for a family member - expensive but worth the cost! Shar had the stand and case as a combination purchase for less than buying each piece separately.Easy to transport with the carry bag shoulder strap. Easy to mark music with the hard back, especially if you use a Shar music folder behind the music to cover the "hinge" bump.I've had to tighten the clamp set screws with a screwdriver once or twice over the years. No other issues in that time...
