Jessica Jones Vol. 2: The Secrets of Maria Hill

It's just fun!
A little but adult, a little bit convoluted - but believable characters tacked into a superhero universe. a glimpse beneath the spandex.

“Infamy! Infamy! They’ve all got it in for me!”
Jessica Jones – The Secrets of Maria Hill collects issues #7-12 of the latest “Parental Advisory” series inspired by the success of the Marvel Netflix series. As with any Brian M. Bendis series, this feels like a series of conversations between various people, interspersed with a bit of moving about between scenes and some action, but is actually a ‘grown up’ story about (mostly) grown-up people who live complicated (and very interesting, action-packed) lives.Jessica is apparently living in her office again, following her secret undercover mission which has alienated her family and given her a street reputation which her ‘friend’ and information broker Raindrop would like her to cash-in on.She finds unemployed spy Maria Hill doing self-surgery in her bathroom, and is offered a job by her, to find out who is trying to kill her, or, more properly, who has hired everybody to kill her.The money is good, so she takes the job, despite their past history, and digs into Maria’s past, which involves people being thrown through windows, another trip to jail – which makes her street rep even more bankable, and discovering the secret origin of Maria Hill (guest-starring Colonel Nick Fury).Luke Danny and her daughter are also here, even Matt Murdock, and Night Nurse and the Defenders get name-checked, in case you are wondering what this has to do with Netflix. This really is an excellent comic, where character and motivation drive the plot, and not vice-versa. This is grown-up comics for grown-up readers, and there is still plenty of blood and asterisks for the less mature ones.

No-nonsense Jessica knows all the breaks
I love everything about this series.Great writing, interesting cases, but maybe for me it's a break from the usual caped crusades and the delving into what are Luke Cage's words actual "Adult Conversation". Jessica cuts through the bullshit with cases and her relationships as she's just trying to get on in life, and I totally relate to it all.Brilliant writing and mesmerising art
