There are mainly two reasons to get these lights - one to make an area safe by lighting it up and one for decorative purposes to accent light a fence. My entrance steps are next to a wooden deck. I do have a porch light if I don't turn it on before I leave it is usually dark when I return. I attached the slights to the outside of the deck and one shining on the steps. With the porch lights off one light puts out enough light to make the five steps safe. The lights have a push button that goes from off to every other light bright white, push it a second time, and you get every other light to go on in a "warmer" less bright color, and push it a third time all lights come on. I set it on the last option. It comes with screws that I screwed into the 2 x 8 boards around the outside of the deck and light hangs on the screws using two slots in the plastic back. The lights are well-constructed products that you wouldn't want to mount the light too high and expect adequate coverage. Mine are about 3 feet above the first step and about four feet above the lawn on the outer edge of the deck, and they do the job. If you want to light up the yard, or driveway area other solutions are made for lighting up a wide area. These are a good value for the price.

Purchased these since I have a long driveway and though we have a spotlight at the end of the driveway, there is a portion which is is not lit between the porch and end of driveway where the garage is located. Figured installing these along the side of the house, it would provide lighting for the portion which is dark. The order comes with six lights and screws to easily install. Though they get most direct sunlight at the end of the day since they are installed facing west, they last all night. These primarily provide light downward making more for decorative / ambient light along the wall (or fence) than providing light outward lighting up an area / pathway. The do provide nice light. If you are looking for something that provides light 3-5 feet outward vs. directly down, this not what you are looking for otherwise, they work great considering their functionality.

Gives the right amount of ambience to the back yard. We are now able to see our dogs when they are against the fence in the dark and the lighting gives a warm feel to the yard. We like how there are yellow and white light options. We plan on buying more.

It has taken me a while to do this review because I can’t seem to find the place that I want to land the lights. However, just put them out in the sun, making sure that the solar part receives most of the sun for the day and they light up perfectly well. Three choices of light temperature depending upon the area that you’re lighting and the ambience that you want. You can change that at any time so if you want it brighter and lighter one time and cooler and softer another, you can always make that change. The thing that I noticed was they talk about using double-sided sticky tape, but that is not included in the package so you will have to purchase that if you want to put the lights up and then move them around to different places at different points in time. Very versatile, nice compact design and I would recommend these to add a little something light- wise to your backyard. It comes with 4 in the package and that actually covers a pretty decent sized area!

the light produced by these lights is equivalent to the light produced by a pair of matches...I installed 4 (four) in a corner of my driveway to try to keep it clear and avoid surprises, but it does not produce a shadow... the light does not reach the floor...!!!!

I ordered these little solar lights for my back yard where specifically for the occasions when we have flooding and the power goes out overnight, which seems to happen every 3 years or so, only once in tur last decade that was as bad as Hurricane Katrina. (It was that last storm - Ida - when the only light on the neighborhood seemed to be the solar up lights on my palm trees and I vowed to install more ... These are part of that plan!)Installation is super simple with two screws, 3" apart. (There's even a simple paper template to make drilling your holes simple.) Hardware wasn't included so I ended up using 1-3/4" countersinking deck screws.The light is quite bright and, to somewhat a surprise, with full sun, the batteries keep the lights on all night .... at least during a southern spring-into-summer. - I suspect the story would be different during a long northern winter but I can't really say.Needless to say, lightweight plastic and there's reason to question the longevity of a product like this... esp. relative to a hard-wired and more costly metal product. But for now, so far so good. (NOTE: I do come back and update reviews if / as such things expire.)

We have a length of fence that needs some light and we needed it to be solar. I saw these lights and figured they would be perfect for what we need and they are. They are good quality, give off enough light and they were incredibly easy to install. Now we have light down our fence.Depending on the length of your fence you may need more than we did.

These are nice lights that are bright enough to use around my garden pond. I attached them to the fence where they would catch the daytime sun. I also considered using them on my deck railing. They are easy to install and add a nice ambience to my garden setting. I would recommend them. All you need is a place that gets a lot of daytime sun.
